Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Emily McLeod of All Creatures Chiropractic, Inc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Emily McLeod.

Hi Dr. Emily , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated from Cleveland University KC in 2000 and opened my first human chiropractic practice not knowing Animal Chiropractic existed. In 2004, I needed to complete some CEs, so I signed up for Parker University’s Animal Chiropractic certification program thinking I’d occasionally adjust dogs and cats on Friday afternoons after finishing up with human patients. Little did I know enrolling in and completing this course would change the entire trajectory of my life! In late 2004, I began caring for animal patients – mostly equine – while I maintained my very busy family wellness practice in Greenwood, MO. By 2008, I began teaching in Parker U’s program, and by 2013, my animal practice had grown so much and some things in my personal life changed, and I made the incredibly difficult decision to leave my human practice. Thankfully, I had an amazing colleague who began caring for my human patients – many of whom still see her for care today! In 2013 I shifted my practice focus to all animal chiropractic and expanded care to include livestock, show animals and sanctuary animals as well. In 2017 my husband and I were given a potbellied pig who changed our lives and we started fostering special needs pigs for our local rescue (KC Pig Rescue Network). I had known there was a shortage of veterinarians, but until I had pet pigs of my own, I didn’t realize how difficult it would be to find vet care for pigs let alone pet pigs! Fast forward to today and my life looks so different than it did a decade ago! My husband and I live on acreage, foster special needs animals, have dogs, pigs, guineas and cats of our own, and I’m now a third year vet student, the assistant director for Parker U’s program, and still maintain my animal chiropractic practice. I’m so blessed to have two amazing doctors and one phenomenal assistant who work with me. Graduation is set for May 2027, Lord willing, and my life couldn’t be more full and fulfilling!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a winding, bumpy road! Starting two small businesses from the ground up is no easy feat. Caring for hundreds of people and animals each week is quite intensive, physically, mentally and emotionally. Employing and managing people always brings a mixture of goodness and challenge. Going back to school after being out for nearly 30 years has been HARD! But through all the twists and turns, I wouldn’t change much because it has allowed me to be where I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about All Creatures Chiropractic, Inc ?
We provide quality chiropractic care for animals of all kinds. We specialize in maximizing biomechanics and mobility of pets, competitive animal athletes, and livestock. Our practice is limited strictly to chiropractic care because we understand the significance of a well working central nervous system which can only function at its highest potential when it is contained within a well articulated, well moving spine. We love caring for all species and all ages of animals. Our youngest patients are hours old and our oldest small animal patients have approached 20 years of age and our oldest large animal patients have been close to 40 years of age! We treat each animal in our care as the individual they are, never rushing through appointments, always wanting our patients’ and clients’ experiences to be positive, beneficial and healing.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
When I was certified in animal chiropractic, I was one of seven certified providers (DC or DVM) in Kansas and Missouri combined! Now, there are dozens of certified animal chiropractors in both states and access to care is better than it has ever been. I see the field of animal chiropractic continuing to expand and be refined as legislation around animal chiropractic changes for the better now that so many people utilize it.
