Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Baker.
Hi Sarah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Baker’s Best Vanilla Co about 4 years ago; it started as just wanting to make some homemade vanilla as Christmas gifts for family. After that Christmas, my husband and I went through a season of life that was not great. Once we made it through that we started making some life changes and cleaning up the products and everything we use in our home. I started making homemade non-toxic cleaners and we got rid of all synthetic fragrances in our home and I started creating simmer pots to still get our home smelling warm and cozy. After that I realized that I wanted to share these items with my community so they could also start making little swaps to better their health in their own home; and thus Baker’s Best Vanilla Co was born and my products were available and on the market!
Our main selling seasons are Christmas time and Mother’s Day, everything we make is made with pure love and is 100% homemade and made as clean as humanly possible; which makes lovely gifts for mamas trying to keep their home low-tox!
Today we offer pure vanilla extract, non-toxic cleaning spray in reusable glass spray bottles, simmer pots in multiple scents, vanilla bean sugar scrub, 100% cotton crocheted dish cloths, crocheted baby blankets, cookie and brownie jars and mommy reset baskets for tired moms who need a reset!
I cannot believe how far we have come since my little Christmas experiment and I cant wait to see where we go next 🙂
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would not say it has been smooth sailing the entire time lol, It has been fun though! The vanilla business is not for the impatient or anyone looking for an automatic turnaround profit. Vanilla beans have to soak for at a minimum of 6 months before they start to turn to vanilla and at Baker’s Best Vanilla Co I try to make sure they soak at a minimum of 8 months to a year before I put my vanilla on the market so it’s definitely a long process to say the least. You have to know the best dates to start a new batch to make sure you have some ready for the busy times of the year. We typically sell out by mid December of all Vanilla and it just teaches me for the nest year how much more to have prepared and ready for the holidays, but every year the orders go up as our business continues to grow.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Aside from Baker’s Best Vanilla Co. I also work for an Insurance Company on the Surplus Lines side and file taxes on the policies filed in California, Iowa and Vermont.
But above it all; I am also a mommy! I became a mom at the beginning of the year in February 2025 to my sweet little boy, Truett. Being a mom is my true passion and most important job and role in life. Since becoming a mom my whole life has changed and the way I view the world, nothing is more important than my little family. Growing family I might add, we are expecting twins in March 2026 and could not be any more excited to watch our family continue to grow!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think there is definitely a time and place for risk taking, but I am not your typical risk taker on the daily. I think that deciding to have another child so close to our first born was a risk, but it was a risk that we were 100% willing to take because we wanted to grow our family and have our kids close together to grow up with one another. Some may see it as risky with my body not being back to normal before getting pregnant again or risky with having THREE under 14 months (haha we weren’t expecting twins but God knew what we were capable of handling and he blessed us with not one, but two babies growing in my belly) but we saw it all as a blessing.
Some risks I don’t see worth taking though, like jumping out of an airplane and trusting a parachute to deploy correctly. I know that’s a risk and a bucket list thing for a lot of folks, but DEFFFFINITELY not for me, I will keep my feet happily on the ground!
