Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Dwyer.
Hi Kate, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been interested in health and nutrition. I grew up as a dancer and knew food could affect your performance and physique—but I didn’t really understand how. As I got older, diet culture started shaping my views more than actual science, and honestly, the more I tried to learn about nutrition, the further away I got from feeling my best. I was sick of listening to unqualified influencers, magazine fads, and friends who were struggling with the same confusion, so I decided to do something about it.
I went back to school, got a second degree in Dietetics, completed 1,200 hours of supervised practice, passed my board exams, and earned a master’s in Clinical Nutrition. It was a lot of work, but it completely changed how I understood food and health. I worked as an oncology and outpatient dietitian, then eventually started my own practice, diving deeper into functional and integrative nutrition while staying rooted in the basics, because that’s what actually works.
Now, as a practicing Registered Dietitian, I help people cut through all the noise, find balance, and get real results without restriction or obsession. My goal is to be the voice I needed when I was younger to help people look and feel their best, fuel their bodies well, and finally have a healthy relationship with food that fits real life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road has definitely not been smooth. It’s been full of detours, lessons, and a whole lot of teamwork. Going back to school while raising two toddlers was no small feat. It took a village… my husband, parents, babysitters, and neighbors all stepped in to help create the space for me to study and attend classes. There were plenty of challenges along the way, including the time one of my children was hospitalized and I had to pause my coursework to care for him. Those setbacks didn’t stop me; they reminded me just how much I wanted this career.
I’ll never forget the weekend before my board exams my husband came down with COVID, it was Halloween, and I was solo-parenting while doing all the final preparation for the biggest test of my life, which i had been studying for for weeks. It was chaos, but again, my village showed up for me.
Owning my own business has brought its own challenges… constantly balancing work and family, navigating insurance billing, and learning things I never imagined I’d have to know. But every bit of it has been worth it. I’m deeply passionate about making nutrition counseling accessible and equitable. That’s why I work with insurance and dedicate so much energy to creating content that’s evidence-based, relatable, and real. So much of my heart is poured into this business, it’s not just my job, it’s my purpose.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business, On Kate’s Plate, is built on one mission, to make healthy eating realistic, personal, and completely judgment-free. I’m a Registered Dietitian who provides one-on-one nutrition counseling both virtually and in person, helping clients improve their health in a way that actually fits their lives.
I specialize in weight management, GLP-1 guidance, GI issues, body image and relationship with food, sports nutrition, and sustainable behavior change. Every person I work with has different needs, so every plan I create is individualized there are no cookie-cutter programs here. My goal is to help you build habits that feel doable, enjoyable, and lasting.
One of the things I’m best known for is my On Kate’s Plate signature meal plans. They’re not rigid diets or calorie spreadsheets—they’re real, balanced meals built around the way people actually eat. Each plan follows my signature framework: nutrient-dense, whole-food-focused, and family-friendly recipes that simplify healthy eating without the overwhelm. They’re designed to reduce decision fatigue, make balanced meals more accessible, and help you feel in control of your health while still enjoying your food. These plans fit seamlessly into busy lives—they don’t take them over.
What truly sets On Kate’s Plate apart is how real I like to keep things. I talk openly about what a healthy lifestyle actually looks like for me, the good, the messy, and everything in between, because food isn’t just fuel. It’s emotional, cultural, and deeply personal. My clients know they can show up exactly as they are and get evidence-based guidance without judgment or guilt.
I’m here to help people stop overthinking food, start trusting themselves again, and build a way of eating that supports the life they want to live… not the other way around.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
A great mentor is someone you genuinely respect and admire, not necessarily someone in your exact field. Some of the best advice I’ve ever received came from people in completely different professions, but who share values I deeply respect, like integrity, balance, and a strong work ethic. I think mentorship is less about titles and more about perspective, finding people who challenge the way you think and remind you who you are.
When it comes to networking, social media has been a powerful tool for me. It allows me to connect with other professionals who share my values and passion for wellness, even if we live in different states or work in different niches. I’ve built so many genuine connections through DMs and collaborations that started with a simple comment or shared idea. I also try to stay open to mentorship and insight from the people already in my life. Sometimes the best “networking” is just having real conversations with people you admire.
Authenticity is my secret weapon. I don’t separate who I am online from who I am in person, what you see is what you get. I might overshare, but I think that’s part of what helps me build genuine, lasting connections. At the end of the day, I go with my gut (pun intended). If someone feels like a good fit for me, they probably are.
