Today we’d like to introduce you to Cary Engle.
Hi Cary, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I worked for a florist while I was attending college for a Commercial Art degree. Once I graduated, I was asked by the owners to manage the shop I was working in. I worked for them for approximately 12 years. I left the florist business for a few years and worked in management for a National retailer. I helped some friends at Valentines Day that purchased a florist . I was bitten by the bug again. I had missed the creative part of my life. We opened Englewood Florist in March of 1993.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been ups and downs. Since we opened in March, ( there was no way to get into the phone books. They were already printed for the year. We got innovative on how to get our name out there. We joined the local Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Lawrence Association, I served on the Heart of America Teleflora Board and was a member and Board member of Kansas Florist Association.

We have owned the business since inception. We are known for Quality flowers and distinct floral designs. We have great customer service. We are a Full Service Florist! A few years back we were named one of the top 10 Florists in the State of Kansas.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The floral market is very fluid. We have adapted to our clients buying habits. We have more and more purchases off our website. Our clients still like to come into the store to see what they are buying. We create floral pieces while they wait with flowers they choose from our display cooler.
