Today we’d like to introduce you to Brook Frazier.
Hi Brook, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always loved animals as a little girl. Growing up I hung posters of dogs and wolves all over my room. I spent my allowance on dog training and dog breed books. Canines have always been a huge passion for me.
I graduated from Emporia State, and joined the corporate world. I worked in sales, customer service and marketing but always felt like something was missing. That’s when I found a company in KC that was hiring full time professional dog trainers. I worked with them for almost two years, learning about the business and how to train and work with animals.
I saw an opportunity to start my own business and it has been a dream come true. Nov 9 my business will be two years old. I feel so lucky to work with dogs and change people’s lives everyday. It is the most rewarding and fun thing I have ever done in my life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road. I was very scared at first to find clients and to make my business its own. I was under a 2yr non-compete from my former employer. They sent me a “cease and desist letter” challenging my business before I even started it. I hired a lawyer and they helped me so much letting me know what I could and couldn’t do. They let me know as long as I don’t use any of their clients or use any of their material I would be good. 8 months later I filed for my LLC and haven’t looked back. I am so grateful for my home town of Louisburg KS, where I have two vets offices and the groomer in town that pass out my business cards. All of my clients have been word of mouth and I wouldn’t be able to do this without them!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Donna Dog Training LLC?
Donna Dog Training LLC is a dog training company that offers Positive Dog Solutions for any and all dogs. Any age, any breed, and any problem. I primarily focus on behavioral work and obedience. I also offer boarding, and different classes. I really have something for everybody no matter what stage they are in with their doggie.
What sets us apart is our willingness to change lives. There is so many ways to train dogs and it’s about finding out what your client is comfortable with and making a program that will fit them. Dogs are very easy to work with but people need to be catered to. My back ground in customer service has changed the way I train. A lot of places only offer set programs and have very strict rules like “no jumping on the couch or no sleeping with you.” I disagree with that, everyone wants something different for their dog and I’m just here to help and guide you to your goals, no judgement just help. I believe that is why I have had such great success.
What I am most proud brand wise is my thirst for knowledge. I love taking training classes from different trainers all over KC, I love reading different books from all different types of trainers. I love learning and taking in as much as I can, while perfecting my craft.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have so many people to thank! Huge thank you to the staff at Louisburg Animal Clinic, they got me my first few clients, and Dr. Wilcox, she has believed in my ability since I was in high school.
Huge thank you to Wildcat Vet Clinic, they have helped me grow so much and gave me the incredible opportunity to speak/give a presentation at all 4 of their locations about Canine Language.
Huge thank you to Morgan at The Hound Lounge, for supporting me and helping me grow! We started our businesses about the same time, and have tons of the same clients. I feel so lucky to get to do all of this together!!
Also big thank you to my parents Marilyn & Angelo, my sister, Abbey, my cousin, Dakota and grandma, Donna for supporting me but mainly for believing in me! My grandma and I share the same name and it has been so special getting to share all this with her!
