Community Highlights: Meet LaTonya “Misty Blu” Elias of Out The Blú Beauty Bar | Blú Vision Group LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTonya “Misty Blu” Elias.

Hi LaTonya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m LaTonya Elias; but in business I am known by “Misty Blú”, founder of Out The Blú Beauty Bar and Blú Vision Group LLC. My journey started with a passion for beauty, creativity, and helping people feel their best. I began in the salon industry honing my skills in hair care, styling, and client services, always focused on personalized experiences.

Over time, I realized I wanted to build more than just a salon—I wanted a brand that could empower others, celebrate individuality, and create opportunities for creatives in the community. That led me to launch Out The Blú Beauty Bar as a space where clients not only receive top-tier hair and beauty services but also feel supported and inspired.

Along the way, I’ve expanded into curated experiences, educational content, and community-driven initiatives that align with my values of creativity, entrepreneurship, and wellness. Every step, from learning behind the chair to leading a growing business, has been about connecting with people, elevating their confidence, and sharing the art of beauty with purpose.

Today, I’m proud of the community we’ve built, the lives we’ve touched, and the stories we continue to create. My journey is ongoing, and I’m always looking for new ways to innovate, inspire, and give back while staying true to my passion for beauty and creativity.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey hasn’t been without challenges. Starting a business in a competitive industry meant learning to navigate limited resources, balancing time between building my brand and serving clients, and managing unexpected hurdles like shifting market demands or personal setbacks.

There were moments of doubt, but I’ve found that perseverance, staying true to my vision, and focusing on creating meaningful experiences for my clients have helped me overcome each obstacle. Every challenge has strengthened my skills and deepened my commitment to my craft.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Out The Blú Beauty Bar is a full-service beauty and wellness studio designed to help clients look and feel their best. We specialize in curated hair services including advanced loc styling, protective styles, silk presses, relaxers, hair loss solutions, and men’s grooming. What sets us apart is our holistic approach: combining skill, creativity, and personalized care to deliver experiences that empower our clients and celebrate their individuality.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of cultivating a space that’s both professional and welcoming, where clients feel valued and inspired. Beyond the salon chair, we also create content, educational experiences, and curated offerings to share beauty and wellness with a wider community. My goal is for readers to know that Out The Blú is more than a salon—it’s a space for artistry, confidence, and connection.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the creative energy and strong sense of community in Kansas City. There’s an authentic support network for local entrepreneurs, and I enjoy connecting with other creatives who are passionate about what they do.

Like many growing cities, parking and traffic can be a challenge, especially for clients trying to access small businesses. But the vibrant community makes it worth it!
