Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Rogers.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been in the beauty industry for 16 years. I had been a self employed single mom of 3 perfect humans for about 10 years, so making my own schedule was always crucial for me so I didn’t miss out on my kids. I’ve been burnt out and tried to retire, but I have been lucky enough to have clients who always keep me going. I truly love what I do, it’s hard on the body but the connections and artistic fun I get to have on a daily basis is unmatched. I’ve gone part time, went back to school and started dental assisting, then I worked as an assistant to an amazing lawyer. I’ve loved it all! But never stopped doing hair, and always came back full time. Later, I met my husband who is Active Duty in the Air Force. Right after we married he was stationed here in Missouri. We did long distance for about a year while I stayed back to sadly shut my salon down and say my goodbyes to the same clients I had for 10 or so years. Starting over was extremely scary but I had many years of experience and was prepared to work hard to rebuild.
I ended up at The Hair Room in Grain Valley, MO. The owner (Melissa Butcher) has been so supportive and extremely helpful in helping me rebuild. To be honest, all of the girls were so helpful and always sending people my way. I’m working my dream job! It’s so nice to be surrounded by positive women.
Before moving to the Kansas City area I had started my journey into permanent makeup. I recently finished up a 2 year apprenticeship under Dazx M. at Luxury Brow, Downtown KC. I am a fully licensed Tattoo Artist trained in permanent makeup such as powder brows, lip blushing and eyeliner. I’m currently building that clientele and can’t wait to get more of my beauty art on people. We love it in KC, it’s definitely home now. Even after my husband retires in a couple of years, we are here to stay!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The struggle was and is sometimes still very real. Being self employed is not for the weak. The amount of money spent to work, the zero benefits, and work consistency being unknown. One week would be busy and the next would be dead. I was always a one income home, a simple one time no show can be devastating when you’re counting on that money to feed your kids dinner. I deal with very a high anxiety and depression disorder that I didn’t deal with for many years. Caused so many challenges in both personal and business. Life has thrown many obstacles but I’m still going strong. Keeping busy keeps me sane!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a hair artist of 16 years, and a licensed PMU artist (permanent makeup)
I love all colors services! A good lived in blonde to a super vibrant vivid. Color corrections, gray blending. The daily change up keeps me excited to work.
I am known for hair extensions, vivids and not knowing a stranger when clients walk into the salon door.
I am most proud of myself. I built this life, I am proud of my work, my work ethic, the life I was able to have for my kids. As hard as it was. I did that.
I think what sets me apart, is the connections I make with clients. Maybe it’s from being in the industry so long. But the conversations, both serious and business. Skill is a lot, but personality and heart is everything. I get to know people, there’s no judgement (unless absolutely necessary) clients have my support.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was so shy and quiet. Couldn’t get me to hardly speak. And here I talk to people all day now!
I had 9 siblings growing up, born and raised in small farm town in Kansas.
I was very active in track, cheerleading, gymnastics and powerlifting growing up. Played other sports but cheerleading and powerlifting were my top 2. I was always very creative as a kid and I’ve always been an animal lover, grew up with lots of dogs and some horses.
