Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophie Durman.
Hi Sophie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It was the summer of 2022 that changed everything for me. I got so inspired by the show Stranger Things. After finishing it, I could not stop dreaming of how fun and amazing it would be to be behind the scenes, laughing and making friends and forever memories. That was all I ever talked about to my mom. She said she thought it was “just a phase.” So she signed me up for a some modeling and acting courses, thinking that would be the end of it. It almost was. I was having a hard time deciding if this was something I should really do. I was nervous to put myself out there, plus I had constant thoughts like, “This industry is really hard, and there is a lot to learn. Can I even do this?” My ultimate decision though was to keep going. My love for modeling and acting won. I couldn’t give up that easily, so I kept pushing myself to learn, and the more I learned, the less I feared. Eventually, I got signed with a talent agency and started getting my acting and modeling jobs. I give thanks to the many people that have helped me in my journey. I have my family, my amazing coaches, and all the people who support and love me. When I sit and think about the last few years, I always smile. I’m proud of how far I’ve managed to come, and the person I’ve grown to be. Was it easy? No. Is it a bit nerve wrecking to put yourself out there? Yes. But is it all worth it? Absolutely, yes!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been bumpy. Being a model and actress can be hard. It has made me feel like I’ve definitely got what it takes, but then at the same time, sometimes like I don’t at all. But no matter what, I just don’t doubt too much or it will affect my performance.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work as a model and an actress. The modeling and acting industry can be tough, but very rewarding. The industry up here in Kansas City is smaller than some of the bigger cities, so it is pretty likely to be meeting the same people multiple times. I am most proud of how I haven’t given up. It’s been a lot of traveling and a lot of hours, so yes it can be tiring and overwhelming. I’d say that my love sets me apart from others. I have unlimited love for others, for myself, and for the industry. I’d never judge anyone who is following their dreams, I look with love towards everybody. I am here to learn, teach others, and be an inspiration for those who need it.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Confidence is the key. It truly is. Find confidence, even if it’s just a little bit. It is what carries people if they just let it. Someone’s confidence will be one of the brightest things that shines from them.
