Daily Inspiration: Meet Paige O’Connor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige O’Connor.

Hi Paige, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Art has always been a form of yoga for me. My early childhood years were filled with a lot of stress and uncertainty, so I turned to art as a form of therapy. My first few years of painting included painting beach scenes in oil, a fluid medium easily manipulated and altered. I found I could escape into the canvas and hear the ocean waves, birds, and wind. As I moved on in life I taught at-risk teenage youth how to use art to enrich their lives, a supplement to traditional mental health care. Now that I am retired from traditional work, I paint and manipulate mediums on a regular basis, providing others with beautiful pieces that bring color, texture, joy or peace into their homes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As someone who doesn’t like promoting herself, I’ve found it difficult to spread the word about my art. I do have a website, and word of mouth is wonderful, but without a gallery presence it can be hard to showcase my work, especially when the pieces are so much more striking in person.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Where I still paint commission pieces, I use mixed mediums in my art today to create stunning layers of depth and dimension that burst with color and energy. Bold images, made from beautifully textured handmade paper pieces, rejoice on canvas. Especially today, in a time of turmoil in our communities, we need to smile, laugh out loud, and enjoy whenever possible.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I would love to leave a positive legacy, and if that is created through art, all the better for it!
