Meet Yancy Ingram of Circle Y Trucking

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yancy Ingram.

Yancy Ingram

Hi Yancy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I got my farm CDL at 16 and helped haul cattle for my dad at the old Sunflower ammunition plant near De Soto. I started my professional truck driving career at 18 years old hauling cattle with a semi and cattle pot. I eventually became a Lowboy driver, hauling big oversized loads like construction equipment. That career path lead me to an excavating company in Lawrence, KS where is started out as <span style=”background-color: rgb(178, 214, 243);”>a</span> lowboy driver in 2006. In 2019 I was promoted to supervisor of the Time and Material division. In 2022, I decided to move on and take a chance at owning my own business, which had always been the goal. I credit the good business relationships I had developed during my time at the excavating company to the success of my company now. I went from owning a semi truck and lowboy trailer to a fleet of 6 trucks, 3 trailers, and 20 roll off containers. Circle Y Trucking started as me offering lowboy services hauling heavy equipment around. I eventually purchased a dump truck which started keeping me more busy than hauling equipment. My wife works for a general contractor and she was having a hard time finding rolloff container companies to haul off all their construction debris. That lead me to looking into adding a hook truck and dumpsters to our business model. That part of the business has really taken off for us. The business has grown enough, our son Lane joined the company as a driver. Just this last winter we also added a truck and salt spreader to the fleet to help keep business flowing during the snowy days.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggle for us has been the breakdowns, especially in the beginning. There for a while it felt like we had way more going out in parts and labor than we had coming in. Purchasing affordable used equipment comes at a price as you have to spend time and money fixing them up and working out all the bugs. Finding a good diesel mechanic that has the time to work on our equipment has been a huge challenge. Thankfully one of my old Coworkers started his own business, Coal Creek Repair, last year and has been a god send for us.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Circle Y Trucking is family owned and operated. We offer a wide range of trucking services including, moving equipment, hauling rock, dirt, debris, trees. We own several rolloff containers that can be rented short term, long term and are also a great option to haul off complete house demolitions vs a truck and demo trailer. The business is small enough I am who you talk to when you call. I always try <span style=”background-color: rgb(178, 214, 243);”>my best to</span> figure out how to get a job done when someone calls. I work hard to find solutions rather than telling someone no, I’m too busy. I’m also real with my customers. I don’t lowball estimates only to nickel and dime extras. If I say I will do something I do it. I’ve never liked having people avoid my calls or tell me something they can’t follow through on. I have more respect for people than that and I strive to treat people how I want to be treated. I’m honest, I’m fair and I do my best to accommodate my customers needs.
