Conversations with Jennifer Shelton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Shelton.

Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have two undergrad degrees, a Master’s in Business, and spent 10 years working in the corporate world before quitting to start my own fitness and health business. Fitness has always been a big part of my life. I started teaching fitness classes in college—I’d sign up for the class to get paid and credit hours! I kept teaching early morning gym classes before heading to my corporate job. When I finally got fed up with the corporate culture and realized it wasn’t for me, I took a big, scary leap and launched my own business.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a business isn’t easy! I took a pretty big pay cut and put in tons of hours building my business and working side jobs to cover my bills. But honestly, all that time and hard work was totally worth it. I love being my own boss and answering to myself. Running my business and dealing with customers honestly and genuinely is really fulfilling and gives me a sense of peace.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Since everyone is unique and different, it gives me the chance to explore, develop, and expand my creative side. I really enjoy discovering and crafting personalized plans and habits for each client, tailored to their current life goals and changes.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
By practicing what I preach. I do ‘most of the things, most of the time’. I believe living a happy and healthy life is all about finding balance… in all parts of your life. Keeping this balance (and yeah, the pendulum will swing!) isn’t always easy, but with practice, better habits start to stick. This doesn’t mean that once you’ve got a good habit down, everything’s perfect and you don’t need to change anything anymore. As you go through life, your habits and routines will shift. This includes everything—your workouts, eating habits, morning routines, bedtime routines, social life, work, your home environment, and more.
