Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Darby.
Hi Amelia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Losing my father to cancer as a teenager led to several challenging years after high school. At age 20, I made the decision to leave an unhealthy living situation in Los Angeles and return home to Kansas City. This move solidified my need for independence and a stable career, as I had adopted two cats while away and knew I had to support us since my mother could not house us all. I secured a job at a day spa in Leawood, which led me to move into the area. Though I began my career by coincidence, I quickly discovered a passion for the beauty and wellness industry and, more importantly, a true love for leadership. In April 2025, I was hired as the Studio Director at Amazing Lash Studio. I now balance my full-time role with being a part-time college student, and I am hoping to utilize my newfound passion for leadership for community service and advocacy.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My own ego is one of the biggest obstacles I’ve faced in my career. As a manager, maintaining the wellness of the staff, the profitability of the business, and client satisfaction is a balancing act that usually results in somebody being upset. It took awhile for me to accept that my role does not allow me to be on everyone’s good side, and trying to please everyone will not help anyone in the long run.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I would like to use this opportunity to talk about the talented team of Lash Stylists that I have the pleasure of working with. If you’ve never tried lash extensions, they are truly life-changing. The Lash Stylists at Amazing Lash Studio in Leawood are dedicated professionals with a background in cosmetology and/or esthetics. Lashing is not typically covered in their schooling, so they go through an extensive training process once they join the team. All of the ladies here love what they do. We all get so giddy when we know we’ve made someone’s day after seeing their transformation!
What matters most to you?
Community unity and mutual care are what drive me. My team at Amazing Lash Studio is a shining example of this commitment. We believe true wellness and beauty starts with deep, human connection. Our lash artists are dedicated caregivers who provide emotional support and focus on the individual well-being of every client.
