Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Hannah Minor, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC of Precision Psychiatric Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Hannah Minor, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC.

Hi Dr. Hannah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was a nurse for nearly 20 years working in various acute care settings, and then moving on to various leadership positions. After years in healthcare leadership I missed working with patients and decided to go back to school to complete my doctorate. I was fortunate enough during this time to have many wonderful mentors that gave me a variety of experiences within the behavioral health setting. I fell in love. I completed my my Doctor of Nursing Practice with a specialty as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.

I have suffered from treatment-resistant depression for decades. One of my mentors utilized pharmacogenetic testing as a guide for her care. Once I saw how much it impacted my own life, I was sold. I knew that is what I wanted to do; that is how I wanted to help people. I had found my calling.

During my doctorate program I wrote an opinion article that was published in Kansas Nurse, a publication of the Kansas State Nurses Association.
I also self-published my doctorate research on identifying childhood trauma in behavioral health into a book.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not. I had a difficult childhood, and like most, experienced trauma. At age 18, I found myself as a single mother with a baby and no where to go. None of my family was nearby and I couldn’t leave with my baby. I was a baby raising a baby, all alone. However, it is because of that baby that I changed my life. I knew I had to give him a better life. He saved me. My grandparents, to whom I owe my life, paid my rent while I went to nursing school initially to get my associates RN. Despite their help, I still had to work 16 hour shifts making minimum wage, raise my son, and go to school. I remember nights where my son would sit on my lap and hold up flashcards for me. Over the years, I added more children and more degrees while continuing to face obstacle after obstacle: divorce, custody battle, and having a child pass away.

Completing my doctorate was done with 4 beautiful children at home, working full time, and a husband that was mostly away. My husband, who is my rock, is an active duty army officer. He moves around every few years, but he kids and I stay put. I did the first half of my doctorate degree while he was deployed to Korea. A couple of months in to starting my practice he got stationed in South Carolina and then deployed again.

We’ve been impressed with Precision Psychiatric Solutions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Precision Psychiatric Solutions, we offer a range of treatments tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. Our services include psychiatric evaluations, medication management, therapy sessions, and holistic approaches to mental health. We strive to provide compassionate care and support to help our patients achieve mental wellness and stability.

We specialize in precision medicine:

An approach to healthcare that uses a patient’s individual genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors to tailor medical treatments and interventions.

Pharmacogenetic testing is a personalized medicine approach that analyzes how an individual’s genetic makeup affects their response to medications. By identifying specific genetic variations, healthcare providers can tailor drug prescriptions to improve effectiveness and minimize side effects.

What does success mean to you?
Fulfillment. Being able to look back on my life and say, I did it. I took myself from the gutters and created a beautiful life. I raised my children to become hardworking, loving, empathetic human beings. I helped people, not just medicated, but truly helped. Being able to say that this world was made a little bit better because of that.
