Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Arthur.
Michelle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into the world of physiotherapy and nutritional healing began in an unexpected place — the fine dining kitchens of the global hospitality industry. Working as an Executive Chef at the time, I was endlessly curious about the ways food and nature could nurture the body. That curiosity led me to study clinical nutrition and plant-based medicine in 2012, and later to immerse myself in the study of Medical Herbalism through the Florida School of Holistic Health and Cornell University.
During my studies, I discovered the restorative power of massage and touch therapy. What began as an elective soon became my calling — a natural extension of my belief that true wellness comes from nurturing both body and soul. Now, as a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) and Master Clinical Herbalist (MCH), I bring both science and heart into every session with my clients, offering thoughtful care rooted in intention, presence, and respect for the body’s innate ability to heal.
That same philosophy gave life to Alma & Co., founded with a vision to honor my Hispanic heritage and weave together my training in the field of Holistic Wellness and Nutrition. Inspired by my upbringing in Peru and the gentle wisdom of my grandmother — a respected holistic practitioner throughout her career — Alma & Co. is a love letter to the traditional healing practices I grew up around.
The name Alma, meaning “soul” in Spanish, beautifully captures the essence of what we do — every offering created with purpose, purity, and deep respect for the Earth. Our initials, A & C, also hold a tender meaning: they represent my eldest daughter’s name, symbolizing the multigenerational care and love that infuse every part of our work.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running a massage therapy practice hasn’t always been an easy road. Balancing the care of my clients with the day-to-day demands of operating a business is definitely not for the faint of heart! There have been seasons of growth, uncertainty, and plenty of lessons along the way, but each challenge has shaped me into a more grounded and intentional practitioner. Finding the right location and dedicated space to truly nurture this work took time as well, but the journey — and everything it taught me — has been completely worth it. What keeps me going is knowing that I get to create a space where people can relax, heal, and feel truly cared for — and that makes every challenge worthwhile.
As you know, we’re big fans of Alma & Co. Massage and Wellness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
With a background deeply rooted in both traditional bodywork and holistic practices, I’ve blended years of experience in wellness, aesthetics, and Ayurvedic-inspired care to create a massage and wellness studio designed to meet clients exactly where they are. Whether you’re an athlete seeking focused recovery, healing from surgery, looking to support your body through lymphatic movement, or simply wanting to unwind and relax, my approach is both personalized and purposeful.
At Alma & Co., we specialize in Ayurvedic care, deep tissue massage, post-operative recovery, and manual lymphatic drainage, offering targeted treatments that promote optimal healing, reduce inflammation, restore balance, and support long-term wellness. Every session is tailored to our clients’ individual goals—whether they’re working toward peak performance or simply in need of deep rest and rejuvenation.
Our mission is to provide not just a service, but a space where you feel seen, supported, and truly cared for.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
People are often surprised to learn that I used to be a fine dining pastry chef. It feels like a lifetime ago, but I still love finding time to create food — to play with flavors, textures, and the joy of making something with love and intention. That same sense of care and creativity carries over into everything I do now, whether I’m crafting herbal products as a clinical herbalist or working with clients as a massage therapist. To me, both food and wellness are forms of art, and both are about nurturing, intention, and connection.
