Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Grooms.
Hi Meagan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Cameron Christian Academy began with a dream and a step of faith. In March 2023, after much prayer and planning, a small group of families and educators felt God’s prompting to create a Christ-centered learning environment where students could grow in both faith and knowledge. With hearts full of vision and determination—and with expert assistance from the Herzog Foundation—they decided to go for it, trusting that God would provide every step of the way.
Just a few months later, on September 5, 2023, Cameron Christian Academy opened its doors for the very first time. Our school was graciously housed in Passion Church, where the partnership and shared mission helped make that first year possible. We began with 22 students, 4 teachers, and one shared purpose: to raise up young people who love God, serve others, and pursue excellence.
From the beginning, our students have had opportunities to grow not only academically and spiritually, but also athletically. Our basketball program launched in our very first year and has continued to thrive—building teamwork, discipline, and school spirit. Now, in our third year, we’re proud to be a member of MSHSAA, expanding opportunities for our students to compete and represent Cameron Christian Academy across the state.
At the heart of everything we do is our purpose:
At Cameron Christian Academy, our purpose is to cultivate a Christ-centered community where students know their identity in Christ, discover and pursue their God-given calling, and walk in a culture of honor that reflects the heart of Jesus in every area of life.
Today, with 40 students and 8 dedicated teachers, we continue to see God’s hand of blessing on our school. Each year brings new growth, new faces, and new ways to live out our mission.
Cameron Christian Academy stands as a testimony to what can happen when faith meets action—proof that with God, small beginnings can lead to great things.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most journeys of faith, the road hasn’t always been smooth. Funding has been our most challenging circumstance—from purchasing simple necessities like microwaves and lockers, to making larger investments in PAID STAFF, new doors, additional classrooms, and curriculum. Each step has required faith, creativity, and perseverance.
Through every challenge, God has been faithful, often providing through the generosity and dedication of our community. Our pastors have stood behind us from the beginning, opening the doors of Passion Church and offering not only space, but steadfast support and encouragement. Together, we’ve worked hard to make the building secure and welcoming for our students and families.
Over the years, we’ve also been able to add a playground and an outdoor basketball court, creating more opportunities for our students to learn, play, and build relationships in a safe and active environment. We’re continually improving our campus, currently working toward a multi-layered security system to ensure every student learns and thrives in a protected space.
Every obstacle has strengthened our faith and unity as a school community—reminding us that while the road may not be smooth, the journey is worth every step.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Meagan Grooms is a passionate educator, devoted wife, and ministry leader whose life centers on faith, family, and serving others. She has been married for 18 years to her amazing, entrepreneurial husband, Brandon, and together they have three wonderful children – Ledger (16), Aselyn (14), and Knox (11).
The Grooms family calls Passion Church in Cameron, Missouri their home, where they faithfully serve in many areas of ministry. Out of their shared heart for missions, Meagan and her husband founded Floodgate Ministries, an organization that leads teams into schools across Latin America, South America, and Africa, spreading the love of Jesus. Since becoming a 501(c)(3) corporation in 2024, Floodgate Ministries has witnessed nearly 22,000 salvations, a powerful testament to God’s grace and faithfulness.
Meagan holds a Master’s degree in Education and spent 13 years teaching in public education, primarily in special education where she served as her district’s autism consultant. Her teaching career also included roles in science, art, and conservation, as well as serving as a coach, Fellowship of Christian Athletes advisor, and class sponsor for numerous student groups.
In 2020, Meagan began homeschooling two of her children, and by 2021, she was teaching all three at home — a step that would eventually pave the way for the founding of Cameron Christian Academy in 2023. Now entering its third year, Meagan continues to serve in multiple roles within the school, helping nurture a Christ-centered learning environment where students grow in faith, character, and purpose.
Her heart remains steadfast: to see children and families discover their God-given identity, walk in a culture of honor, and impact the world for Christ.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’ve been blessed with an incredible circle of people who have played a vital role in the success of Cameron Christian Academy.
My husband has been my greatest supporter. Our pastors, Lonnie and Colleen Hardy, and church family at Passion Church have also been a constant source of encouragement, providing space, prayer, and unwavering support from the very beginning.
The Herzog Foundation offered invaluable guidance and resources that helped turn our dream of Christian education into reality.
Several individuals have gone above and beyond to help carry the vision: Amber Kadra, a single mother of four and co-founder, used her early childhood expertise to help establish the school; Tara McDowell and Rebecca Lopez, two teachers who partnered with us from the beginning; Kendra Lewis, entrepreneur and mother of a senior in our first graduating class, now teaches entrepreneurship to our upperclassmen; and Tracy Filley, who has been with us since year one, founded and continues to grow our boys basketball program.
Each of them has been a vital part of God’s faithfulness in this story, and I’m deeply grateful for their dedication and partnership.
