Hi Kimberly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Iowa and I still have a lot of family back there. On one trip back to Iowa to visit family in 2021, we found a charming little boutique in Ankeny, Iowa called Real Deals that offered both home decor and women’s fashion at irresistible prices. I quickly learned that Real Deals is a franchise with 50 Real Deals boutiques around the country. While there were 6 Real Deals boutiques in Iowa, there were none located in either Kansas or Missouri. That’s when the dream began for me of opening a Real Deals boutique in Kansas City. After two years of extensive research and searching for the right location — we finally opened our Real Deals boutique in November 2023. I had worked at Hallmark Cards for over 25 years — so there were a lot of parts of this new adventure that felt very familiar to me – but I also quickly found out that I had A LOT to learn about being a small business owner! The past two years have been a total whirlwind — of learning about everything from inventory to buying to marketing a start up business!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any small business owner would ever say that it’s been a “smooth road” – there are always things that you don’t (or can’t simply) anticipate. I think one of the things that has been a bigger challenged than I ever expected is just getting the word out quickly to enough people that our new boutique is here in KC!

Our locally owned Real Deals boutique carries the latest looks in seasonal and everything decor, accent furniture, women’s clothing and accessories & so much more — all at irresistible prices!
We opened in Nov 2023 at 1034 w 136th St, KC, MO 64145. We are located near the Target and World Market at State Line Rd and 135th Street. Our hours of operation are: Wed & Thurs 10-6pm, Fri 10-5pm, and Sat 10-4pm.
Our shoppe offers everyday and seasonal home decor, kitchen decor, gourmet dips, sauces & seasonings. We also offer candles and wax melts, wall art and more! In addition almost half of our shoppe includes women’s clothing and accessories, carrying the best denim brands: Judy Blue, Risen, Mica & Kancan. You’ll find a wide variety of styles and sizes from casual to dressy. Our ever-changing selection brings in new arrivals weekly, offering on-trend styles and timeless staples.
