Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Chanah Brown of Crossroads

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chanah Brown. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Chanah, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Spending time with my parents means a lot to me. Now that I’m older, I’m starting to recognize how our relationship is changing, but in a good way. I really appreciate all the life advice they share with me. When I was younger, I didn’t always value it, but now I try to cherish every moment I have with them. No matter what I’m going through, I know I can always count on them for love and support.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Chanah Brown, and I’m an abstract artist based in Kansas City. My work explores emotion, texture, and storytelling through color and layered materials. I love creating pieces that spark conversation and connection. Beyond creating, I also host networking events and mini art shows that bring local artists together to collaborate and inspire one another. I’m passionate about making art accessible and showing people that creativity isn’t just a skill, it’s a form of healing and self-expression.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think that sometimes life catches up with us, and it can take a toll on our relationships with the people we love. What breaks those bonds is often distance, stress, or a lack of communication. What restores them, though, is time, honesty, and the willingness to listen and understand each other truly. Being considerate and open helps rebuild the connection that might’ve been lost.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of rejection has held me back the most in life. It’s never a good feeling, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized it’s just a natural part of life. Not everyone will agree with or support what you’re doing, and that’s okay. I’ve learned to take rejection as a lesson instead of a loss, using it as motivation to grow and improve. I’ve also learned that rejection doesn’t hurt nearly as much as regret. At least with rejection, I know I tried, while regret leaves me wondering about what could’ve been.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is Black unity and pride. I was raised to always be proud of my heritage and to carry my culture with confidence. Our history, resilience, creativity, and strength inspire me every day. I believe it’s important to uplift one another, support Black-owned businesses, and keep our traditions alive through art, music, and community. No matter where I go, I make it a priority to represent my people with love and respect.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I had only ten years left, I would stop sleeping in and make myself a morning person. I’d want to make the most of every moment, spending my days creating, experiencing new things, and being present, rather than wasting time in bed. Time is too precious to sleep it away.
