Check Out Skye Streen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skye Streen.

Hi Skye, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been interested in photography since I first picked up a camera in high school. It started out as a hobby for me and has always been something I thoroughly enjoyed. I studied at ASU and got a bachelor’s in fine arts and from there I started professionally taking photos in 2022. It was a slow start, but gradually my Arizona business grew and I was recognized in entrepreneur magazine for my work! Now I have started a new sister company, Skye Studios KC, in the Kansas City area. I’m very excited about the new opportunities I am presented and to be able to work with the local couples and families to capture their stories and create memories.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a new business is never an easy path to follow, but if it is something you love and you have a talent to share with the world it is always the way to go. I personally find the struggle helps push me further towards my success. It can always be difficult to find clients, but I’ve found once you have a good circle built it all tends to work out. One struggle for me personally is feeling the need to post to my social media and gain traction. I believe a lot of photographers would agree that in today’s world having a good presence on Instagram and other platforms is necessary to get bookings.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a photographer with my own company, Skye Studios KC. I specialize in engagement, maternity, graduation, and family photography. I am also slowly growing my business within the wedding industry. Personally my favorite photoshoots are of my couple clients. To be able to document and tell their love story through photos is a true passion of mine. I really love editorial style shoots with candid photos mixed in. I shoot both landscape and portrait and really try to capture the raw emotion of my clients. Something that I think sets me apart from other photographers is the fact that I absolutely love editing. I am always so inspired by the work I do within Lightroom and photoshop and it is the best feeling seeing an already amazing photo get even better through my style of editing.

How do you think about luck?
Luck is a funny thing, I feel like I’ve had experience with both good and bad luck within having this business. Good luck is having the best clients that show up ready to have fun and are excited to take great photos! I’d say it’s a very unique job to be a photographer and I’m very fortunate in that. Bad luck tends to be weather, something as a photographer I can’t control. A shoot being rained out is never fun, but it can lead to fun photo opportunities if the client is interested. I have had some very beautiful moody shoots when the weather was a bit dreary and if I do say so myself the photos turned out lovely.
