Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Knowles.
Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I actually started out in the corporate world, working in finance analytics and operations. I’ve always loved digging into data and finding patterns that help things run smoother. Over time, I realized a lot of small business owners were struggling with the same kinds of challenges — just without a finance department behind them.
What started as me helping a few friends clean up their books turned into S Knowles Consulting. Now I help small business owners understand their numbers, get organized, and make decisions with a little more confidence and a lot less stress.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road, but I don’t think it’s supposed to be. Starting a business while balancing family life and a corporate job was a lot — late nights, learning curves, and plenty of trial and error.
The hardest part was shifting from the structure of corporate life to building everything from scratch. In corporate finance, there’s a process for everything. As a small business owner, you are the process — marketing, bookkeeping, tech support, all of it.
What kept me going was wanting to do work that felt more personal and meaningful. I love helping people see that their numbers aren’t something to fear — they’re just another part of their story. That’s what makes the challenges worth it.
We’ve been impressed with S Knowles Consulting LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
S Knowles Consulting is all about helping small business owners get a clear, realistic picture of their finances so they can make confident decisions and actually enjoy running their business again. I offer bookkeeping and consulting services — things like categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, and helping clients understand their cash flow and profitability.
What really sets me apart is my approach. I don’t just “do the books” — I take time to understand how each client runs their business and what they’re trying to build. A lot of my clients are great at what they do but feel overwhelmed by the financial side. My goal is to simplify it, create systems that make sense to them, and take away that stress so they can focus on growth.
Brand-wise, I’m proud that S Knowles Consulting feels approachable and grounded. I wanted it to reflect both strategy and calm — that sense of relief when someone finally says, “I’ve got this handled.” It’s not about flashy promises; it’s about building trust, clarity, and long-term stability.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is integrity and genuine connection. I care about doing work that’s honest, helpful, and actually makes someone’s life easier. Whether it’s helping a client get their books organized or mentoring someone who’s just starting out, I want people to walk away feeling more confident and supported than when they came in.
At the end of the day, it’s about trust. Numbers are personal — they tell the story of someone’s hard work and risk-taking — so being invited into that space is something I take seriously. I try to meet people where they are, without judgment, and build from there.
