Meet Jordan Heffner of Heffner Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Heffner.

Hi Jordan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was given the opportunity to be a nanny for a local real estate agent who then hired me on as her assistant. An opportunity came up to take the courses to become a licensed Real Estate Agent and so I took it. Shortly after passing the exam and becoming licensed the agent I was an assistant for did not want me to sell Real Estate and instead still just be her assistant. That same day I quit that position and started my own business.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey started on a fairly bumpy path – I was effectively a functioning alcoholic, drinking daily and frequenting bars. Just getting through the day at my job as a custodian at a public middle school. A turning point for me was when I met my current husband and realized I would have to get my shit together to keep this relationship. I then quit smoking and drinking – I feel like that’s what allowed me to know that I could do better for myself. This turning point is what gave me the opportunity to nanny for a real estate agent. Today, I’m 6 years sober and have two successful businesses working for myself as well as multiple long lasting, meaningful relationships. I feel like being sober has enabled me to achieve everything that I have.

As you know, we’re big fans of Heffner Homes. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Heffner Homes was established in 2021 and tries to take the chaos out of home buying and selling. We specialize and love first time homebuyers. We have a meeting with them to go over what happens throughout the process so they feel comfortable making decisions during the transaction. We feel that it’s important for them to understand what the next step is before we get there and keep communication and expectations clear.

We care about our clients before, during, and after the transaction. We provide two client appreciation events each year and continuously pop by through the year to see how things are going. We are here long after closing to help with anything you may need.

I’m most proud of our community outreach – we hold a Charity Bingo event each month benefiting different local charities. Not only does it bring the community together to do something fun, but it raises funds for those who need it. So far this year we have raised over $9,300 for local charities. Our goal is to raise $10,000 this year! We volunteer for Uplift, an organization that helps feed and give necessities to homeless people in Kansas City as well as volunteer for Habitat for Humanity helping beautify homes for those who need it.

Running my own business gives me the ability to have what I call “Grandma Day.” Each week I take her out to get her hair done, we have lunch, and then we make a trip to Walmart. I’m lucky to get to spend that time with her while she’s able.

How do you think about luck?
I’m not sure I believe in luck. Hard work, self improvement, and passion have played a big role in both my self and business development.
