Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Patricia Powell

We recently had the chance to connect with Patricia Powell and have shared our conversation below.

Patricia, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I would have to say all 3 are important to me, but if I had to choose one I would choose integrity because I rather choose always do what’s right, even when it’s hard.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello my name is Patricia Powell! I’m the owner of Pa’s Creative Hands! Pa’s Creative Hands (Locs & Natural Hair)
Specializing in locs, natural hair care with a creative, healing touch. Custom styles, healthy hair, and confident crowns.
Embrace your roots. Celebrate your beauty.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would have to say my husband is the person who saw me before I could see myself! Because he has always encouraged me, to do what I need to do me personally and my business!! He has never left my side or have do it on my own!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You don’t have to feel bad for choosing you! I’m proud of you. I love you. And I’m so glad you kept going!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
For Me, It’s Faith and Family—Always.
Faith is my foundation.
It’s how I’ve survived, healed, and grown. It keeps me grounded when life gets heavy, and it reminds me I’m never walking alone—even when it feels like it. It’s not just religion—it’s a deep trust in something bigger, a spiritual connection that keeps me anchored.
Family is my heartbeat.
Not just blood—but the people who show up, love hard, and hold space for each other. We laugh together, grieve together, and carry our history with pride. I protect my family’s legacy, our stories, our traditions—because they’re sacred. They shaped who I am.
In my culture, faith and family aren’t just important—they’re everything.
They’re how we make it through. And I’ll always protect them, no matter what.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Pa’s Creative Hands wasn’t just a salon—it was a place where natural beauty was honored, textures were respected, and every client left feeling seen. Through patience, skill, and a deep love for locs & natural hair, Patricia built a space rooted in authenticity. Not only did she style hair beautifully, but she taught people how to care for their hair, instilled confidence, and created community. When you remember Pa’s Creative Hands, you remember a legacy of empowerment, artistry, and hard work.”
