Inspiring Conversations with Chad Derowitsch of KCFITCLUB

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Derowitsch.

Hi Chad , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up was a rough start. I didn’t play sports or have a natural outlet, but in middle school I discovered training, and it gave me something I’d been missing—structure, confidence, and a sense of direction. That spark eventually became my career. I’ve been in the fitness industry for over 20 years, earning a degree in Exercise Science, later an MBA, and stacking up certifications so I could blend science with real-world coaching.
In 2015, I opened KCFITCLUB in Overland Park. At the beginning, it was just me—no staff, no partners, and hardly any equipment. I built it piece by piece, client by client, and there were plenty of times I wondered if I’d make it. The grind of early mornings, late nights, and months where bills outpaced clients tested me in ways I never expected.
But I kept showing up. Over time, I grew KCFITCLUB into a fully equipped private studio where I now coach busy Gen X men and women on how to take control of their health. My approach is simple and science-based: strength training, InBody 580 body-composition scans, nutrition coaching with Herbalife, and accountability through our fitness app.
What I’ve learned is that resilience matters more than perfection. I don’t need to be flawless—I just need to stay consistent, adapt when things get tough, and lead by example. That’s why my message to clients is the same as the one I live: keep it simple, stay accountable, and never underestimate what steady effort can do over time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting out, I had no staff, no investors, and barely any equipment. Every piece of gear I own now was earned one client at a time. There were plenty of months where bills came due before the income did, and I had to decide whether I was stubborn enough to keep going.
The grind was relentless—early mornings, late nights, and the constant balancing act of running a business while still being present for my family. It’s easy to think owning a gym means training all day, but the reality is it also means bookkeeping, marketing, cleaning, and fixing whatever breaks. I had to learn how to wear every hat and figure it out as I went.
There were also the external challenges: competing with big-box gyms, staying relevant in an industry full of trends and fads, and then facing curveballs like the pandemic, where in-person training all but disappeared overnight. Each obstacle forced me to adapt and rethink how I could serve people without compromising the quality of what I do.
Through it all, the common thread has been persistence. I’ve learned that success isn’t built on smooth roads—it’s built on showing up when it’s tough, keeping the vision alive when it feels out of reach, and taking the long view even when the short-term looks bleak.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
KCFITCLUB is a private one-on-one training studio I started in 2015 in Overland Park. I specialize in helping busy Gen X men and women build strength, energy, and confidence while aging well. My clients don’t have hours to waste on guesswork or trendy fitness fads—they want results they can sustain.
What sets KCFITCLUB apart is the personal, science-driven process I’ve built. Every client begins with an InBody 580 body-composition scan so I can tailor their training and nutrition to their exact needs. I pair strength training with customized nutrition coaching through Herbalife and track progress and habits with my KCFITCLUB fitness app. It’s a system designed to simplify health, not complicate it.
I’m most proud of the fact that I built this business from nothing—no investors, no fancy startup money—just grit, persistence, and the belief that I could create something better than a cookie-cutter gym. Today, KCFITCLUB is a fully equipped studio where clients not only transform their bodies but also reclaim their energy and confidence in midlife.
For readers, I want them to know that my mission is simple: you don’t have to accept slowing down as you get older. With the right coaching, tools, and accountability, you can feel strong, energized, and capable at any stage of life.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
A few resources have really shaped how I approach both fitness and business. Atomic Habits by James Clear is one I recommend to almost every client—it breaks down how small, consistent actions compound into lasting change, which is exactly what I teach in the gym. The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson is another book that influenced me, especially in the early years of building KCFITCLUB. And more recently, Forever Strong by Dr. Gabrielle Lyon has been a powerful resource because it highlights the role of muscle in longevity, which is the exact mission I focus on with my Gen X clients.
For podcasts, I listen to The Ed Mylett Show and The Tim Ferriss Show—both mix practical tools with inspiring stories from high performers. They keep me thinking bigger than just reps and sets.
And from a practical standpoint, the KCFITCLUB fitness app has become a cornerstone of how I coach. It helps my clients track workouts, habits, and progress in real time, and it keeps me connected with them outside of the studio. Pair that with the InBody 580 scan technology I use, and I’ve got the tools to make coaching both personal and measurable.
