Today we’d like to introduce you to David & Mindy McGinnis.
Hi David & Mindy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
David and Mindy McGinnis founded Editors Choice Hifi to create a space where music lovers and audiophiles can experience high-end audio equipment in a private, relaxed, and stress-free environment. Located just a 30-minute drive from Overland Park, Kansas, our facility is designed to offer a one-of-a-kind “audio experience, like no other!”
The 5-acre property features a carefully constructed 4-soundroom building with two dedicated listening areas. Additionally, our outdoor space can accommodate over 50 guests and includes a state-of-the-art outdoor sound system, all surrounding a tranquil pool. As soon as you drive onto the property, we want you to feel as though you’ve arrived at an audiophile’s dream resort.
At Editors Choice Hifi, excellence was our top priority while developing this space. Rather than rushing to open our doors, David and Mindy spent years perfecting every detail. David’s passion for audio began at age 13 when he started installing car audio systems, soon competing in car audio competitions. For over 30 years, he ran his own home theater design and installation company. Together, David and Mindy have gained extensive experience with various audio systems, selecting only the finest high-end audio equipment for a wide range of budgets.
When choosing which brands to carry at Editors Choice HiFi, several criteria had to be met. The manufacturers’ passion and commitment to their products, the balance between quality and cost, and, most importantly, the sound quality all played crucial roles. To us, sound is more than just noise – it’s an emotional connection.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The whole process of designing, selecting and building the Audio store was amazing. We took our time and really appreciated every step of the building. David did most of the work himself and Mindy was his helper. We, to this day say, remember when…… example….we chose the lighting for the Rock n Roll room. It was a great experience.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We celebrate the fact that we don’t focus on sells and money, we honestly try to make the Audiophile customer satisfied with the chooses they make. High end Audio equipment is an investment, you need to have no regrets. We have hand picked Brands that no one else sells in our area. Our store saying is “The difference in your purchase is the Dealer….EC Hifi has your sound.” We have the High end audio equipment in our storefront and the customer is invited to spend as much time in our soundrooms needed to finalize thier purchase. We also take equipment to potiential customers homes, set it up and allow them to listen in their own setting for 1-2 weeks – to aid in their purchase.
You can sign up to be an Editors Choice Hifi member, which is free. With that you get several advantages that the public does not get. Our favorite thing to do for our Editors Choice members is host a get-together for their friends and family. Another fun thing we do for Editors Choice member is have Vinyl nights, they can bring in there favorite Vinyl an we have a machine that cleans the vinyl – then of course we listen.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Every individual is different. Every person has there own opinion. The likes and dislikes of High end audio is basically an opinion. We first listen to our customers on what they like. Research an gain knowledge to help the customer pick out what they really want.
