Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Proberts.
Hi Katie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve known I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I was the kid making bracelets and selling them out of her locker at 12-years old. That drive has always been a part of me. I come from a cycle of poverty, so I didn’t really grow up with an entrepreneurial spirit or even much money management modeled for me. It was something that was just innately there. Choosing this path meant going against a lot of norms of my family. For me, it was about wanting a better life—not only for myself, but for my daughter. Right out of high school, my dream was to open up a flower shop, and that love for weddings, events, and creating meaningful experiences is still very much in me. I hope to bring more of that work into what I do as I grow, and maybe someday return to that original dream of owning a flower shop myself. Who knows what this life will bring!
Enchanted Dawn began with me helping businesses with their social media and storytelling, and it has since grown into a full boutique marketing agency here in Kansas City. We specialize in working with purpose-driven, community-minded brands—helping them tell their stories in ways that resonate, build trust, and foster real connection, not just more noise online.
Alongside Enchanted Dawn, my personal journey of self-discovery and motherhood has led me to launch the Hummingbird Foundation. The foundation was inspired by my experiences as a caregiver of a child with Hypophosphatasia and connecting with other parents of children with complex medical diagnoses and needs.. Our mission is to support caregivers through financial relief, respite care, and emotional support. We’re currently in the process of building our nonprofit board and inviting members of the community to join us in shaping this next chapter.
Both Enchanted Dawn and the Hummingbird Foundation reflect the same truth: I want to create spaces—whether in business or in life—where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been anything but smooth! There were seasons where I questioned whether I could keep going—juggling being a single mom, running a business, and navigating my own healing from trauma. I feel like when life is that chaotic you begin to question yourself and out of a fear that I would lose it all or the weight would be too heavy, there were moments that I wanted to give up and possibly go get a more stable full time job. But by buckling down, healing, and working through the fear– mostly still doing it scared, I was able to come out stronger and more determined than ever. It’s a process of unlearning patterns, rewriting stories, and overcoming the internal obstacles that so often stand in the way of us being successful, especially as women.
My past struggles taught me resilience and reminded me that entrepreneurship is as much about personal growth as it is about professional achievement. They’ve fueled my passion for making sure that the people I work with—whether clients, collaborators, or community members—feel supported and understood in their own journeys.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Enchanted Dawn, we help businesses and nonprofits build not just visibility, but true community. We specialize in social media strategy, website design, and storytelling-driven marketing campaigns. While we work across many industries, we have a deep commitment to wedding and event-based businesses, women-owned and family-centered brands, and nonprofits doing meaningful work in Kansas City. What sets us apart is that we don’t just execute—we educate and partner with our clients. They know they have a team that believes in their vision as much as they do.
At the Hummingbird Foundation, the focus shifts to supporting caregivers of medically complex children. Our mission is to provide respite care, financial assistance, and emotional support to families who often feel unseen. The work is deeply personal and rooted in lived experience, and I’m proud to be building something that will bring hope and relief to families who need it most.
But more than anything, I’m proud of being a mom. Enchanted Dawn was born out of necessity. I needed flexibility as a single parent, knowing there would be doctor’s visits, specialist appointments, and school commitments that I couldn’t sacrifice. Building my business was as much about creating space for my daughter as it was about creating a career for myself. She is my greatest accomplishment. Watching her grow into a capable, curious young girl and knowing she won’t have to repeat the same cycles that I experienced and witnessed as a child is the legacy I’m most proud of, and everything I do is rooted in that.
What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, I see both growth and deeper community connection. Enchanted Dawn is still pretty industry-agnostic—we work with businesses from many different backgrounds—but we’re particularly excited to continue partnering with wedding and event-based businesses here in Kansas City, women-owned and family-centered businesses, and nonprofits that hold valuable missions for our community. Those are the spaces where our work feels most aligned, and I want to help amplify the voices of people doing meaningful things in this city.
With the Hummingbird Foundation, the future feels wide open. Our next big step is officially building out our board and launching programs that provide real, tangible support for caregivers. Long term, I envision community-driven fundraising events and annual gatherings that not only raise awareness but also create space for healing, celebration, and support.
And personally, I’m looking forward to continuing the journey of growth—balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, and the ongoing process of discovering who I am and the impact I want to leave behind
