Kenya Hollins of Kansas City on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Kenya Hollins and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenya, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately it has been baking, painting and spending time with my children

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kenya Hollins, and I’m the artist and founder behind klvoeskhloè art formerly known as Art By Klvoe. I’ve been a visual artist for over ten years, with a focus on celebrating Black beauty and identity through vibrant, expressive work. My practice spans traditional painting, custom shoes, and press-on nails, and more recently, I’ve been exploring digital art to broaden my creative impact.

After dedicating my life to Christ, my work began to shift toward more faith-inspired themes—using art as a tool to share messages of purpose, healing, and transformation. My brand, klvoeskhloè art, is centered around inspiring people and focusing on what I call “healing and reconstructing”—a concept that speaks to rebuilding identity through faith, creativity, and empowerment.

What makes my work unique is its heart and intention. Every piece is a reflection of my journey and a conversation starter about identity, faith, and the beauty found in both.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
A relationship that reshaped how I see myself was deepening my relationship with God and becoming a mother. Through both, I experienced what it truly means to be unconditionally loved and accepted. They’ve allowed me to see myself in a new light—free to be fully who I am, whether I’m being goofy, passionate, emotional, or vulnerable. That freedom has empowered me to express myself more honestly, both as a person and through my art.”

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I lost my daughter at 5 months last year, and that has been the worst pain i’ve ever experienced in my life. I didn’t think I would or could ever get through it. And I was proven there is a way, with seeking first God, and tapping into the resources He’s provided on Earth for me. I’m not over it or never will be but i’m able to get through it through the love and support of my loved ones, expressing myself creatively through painting and drawing, exploring every way I can to create. Definitely has helped speed up the healing process which is a never-ending journey. But I’m grateful for it.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends notice my passion for my children, creating, and loving/expressing love through everything I do. Especially drawing and painting.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop self sabotaging. I would break addictions, i would stop getting in my head about what i can’t do, i would stop procrastinating on things, and i would be more present.
