An Inspired Chat with Artesha “Teash” Fernandez of East Kansas City, Missouri

We recently had the chance to connect with Artesha “Teash” Fernandez and have shared our conversation below.

Artesha “Teash”, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. When was the last time you felt true joy?
The last time I felt true joy was here recently celebrating my 43rd Birthday on August 1st. Since my Mother passed just about a year and half ago, I didn’t think that my Heart could be filled with anything other than pain and even though I will always feel that painful void, God allowed me this special day to be loved by everyone that I love.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Artesha (Teash) and I’m the Creator of Tea With Teash Podcast, born and raised right here in Kansas City, Missouri. I created my Platform so that I could give my People a voice and by my people, I mean the Local Creatives, Entertainers and Small Business Owners in my City. I then decided to take my Platform a step further and started interviewing amazing people outside of my City and on to Celebrity Interviews which have been amazing! I have interviewed Hollywood Actress Brely Evans, Celebrity Master Certified Life Coach which is also the Former Wife of Ceelo Green, Christina Johnson. My Celebrity interview list went on to Chef Tregaye who is an Atlanta Based Celebrity Chef that has had her own Cooking Show “Tregaye’s Way” on OWN and she has also appeared on Food Network. I have an amazing Celebrity interview (Tea Talk is what I called them) coming up August 16th with Atlanta R&B Artist Bonita Jalane and I’m so excited about that! I was always a talker as a Kid, set up my own Talk Shows in my Bedroom with stuffed animals and and Baby Dolls as soon as Oprah, Geraldo, Sally Jesse Raphael and Donahue would go off for the day. I later wanted to major in Journalism and pledge Delta Sorority but I became a Mommy right after graduating from High School, so all plans have to take a backseat. Fast forward here I am and to be doing what I love has been so incredible, can’t wait to get into more which I will be apart of my First Panel this October called “Leading With Value” provided by Brent Darden. What makes my show unique is that I have a specific vision and I’m authentically building bricks independently, I’m making connections organically and I’m growing from that!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I feel like what breaks the bonds between people is the lack of boundaries, respect and real love for one another. What restores them is how much you’re willing to fight to keep those people you cherish in your life. Supporting them, surrounding them with positivity and helping replenish them and not sucking them dry is how to replenish and strengthen any bond.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I think the moment I stopped hiding my pain and using it as my superpower was about six months after my Mother passed. I found myself is such Grief and Sorrow that I shut down. I don’t want to do anything, I didn’t want to continue being a voice for anybody that may have needed to be that for them, I just simply felt like I was losing parts of myself everyday. Until one day I said to myself “Mom would want me to keep going”. Me and my Mother were similar is some ways, she was funny and I’m funny, she had a vibrant and out loud personality and so do I, she was always smiling and it was very infectious just like me, so I decided to use my pain and love for her and keep living! I no longer hide the fact that I’m hurting without her but I share it with my “Teacups” which is my Audience, I share it with everybody because it’s important to me and I want my Mother to keep living through me. I feel like she’s with me every time I host an event, every time I’m interviewing and every time I am Networking in big settings. I feel like I’m pressing forward for her as if this was her Dream and get the sense that she’s right next to me every day!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely, 100%! I am really loud, funny, I love happy spaces and I love to share the best times with my Friends and Supporters. What you see is what you will always get with me and that’s what people love me.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
My Heart, my Compassion, my Support and the long lasting impressions that I’ve left with others by implementing these parts of me would remain.
