Lauren Schmidt, CLU, QPFC shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Lauren, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day is filled with a good workout around 8 AM followed by a hot shower and making a homemade smoothie!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a financial advisor credentialed as a CLU and a QPFC.
I recently partnered my practice with my close friend and we own a firm known as Truicity Wealth Management. Truicity means planning with trust and authenticity, and our mission is to help goal oriented people efficiently, effectively, and expeditiously build wealth to accomplish their goals and create their legacy.
I come from a background of a full family being the oldest of 8and I hope to always lead by example!
I am a complete movie buff, and my favorite film is “Memento”
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I firmly believe bonds between people are solely broken when trust is absent.
Anything besides trust is surface level but trust is what we create between each other in order to be resourceful and helpful and at peace.
While I don’t believe broken trust can always be restored, I do believe the restoration of trust can possibly be recreated with time.
In regard to our clients and how we plan, I always say we move at the speed of trust.
Everyone has the right to challenge me while I also have the right to challenge them which in turn creates an unbreakable client-advisor bond.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. And admittedly, I still have days that seem to be the last straw… However, that’s how I know I’m on the right path; nothing worth doing is easy.
I also see tremendous growth in these times, which is another indicator of my success. You grow through what you go through.
In the end, it doesn’t matter how many times you fall down; it’s how many times you get back up.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Autonomy. I’m blessed to have the freedom. I’ve naturally received in my life, but also the freedom I have created.
While freedom is never free, I’m so blessed to say the autonomy I’ve experienced in my young life has been another indicator and reason for my success.
The freedom to unapologetically be my authentic self has helped me build character beyond belief.
I have also noticed my autonomy has allowed me to be more open minded than I ever have been in my career.
It has also led me to feel inspired to seek partnership professionally, which has changed my entire practice in the most positive way and also seek partnership personally, which is a journey I’ve had little focus on until now.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I am ever so thankful to say that I love my career.
I would say the hardest years were the first 3years, primarily, because I was still trying to figure out process and systems while gathering credentials.
Once everything started to smooth out, my purpose became even more clear than when I started.
My purpose of being the go-to girl for finance was always ingrained in me but something about the 4th year of business just made it all feel worth it.
While there are still very tough days on my plate, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I’m right where I’m supposed to be and I’m becoming exactly who I’m supposed to be. I was made for this.
Sometimes I think about people I have come across in my life who absolutely hate what they do, and it breaks my heart. While my business is not my identity, it is a big part of me, and I can’t imagine doing something every day that wasn’t fulfilling
