Abigail Mitchell of Junction City on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Abigail Mitchell shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Abigail, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One of the biggest misunderstandings in marketing and design right now is the assumption that it’s simple. There are so many DIY tools available, and it can seem easy to make a logo or a website. But design actually has fundamentals that most people don’t even realize exist. Things like balance, hierarchy, color theory, readability, and adaptability all play a role in whether a design actually works well. So when you see someone charging $5,000-$20,000 for a brand identity or $2,000-$10,000 for a website, there’s a valid reason for that. They’re charging for expertise, strategy, and a product that will actually help you make money for years to come.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Abigail Mitchell, and I’m the owner of Mitchell Marketing, a marketing and design studio based in Kansas. I combine design and strategy in a way that’s effective and compassionate.

Mitchell Marketing offers brand design, website design, social media support, video and podcast editing, content creation, and copywriting—alongside marketing strategy, business coaching, and Fractional CMO support.

At its heart, Mitchell Marketing is about more than its services; it’s about helping business owners feel confident and cared for while they grow. For me, good marketing isn’t just about how it looks on the outside—it’s about making the whole process feel lighter and more aligned on the inside, too.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I won’t go too far back in time…and this is very work-related. But it’s actually a joke in the design community that once you learn the principles of design, you can’t unsee them. Graphic design is everywhere and before I knew it, my brain was noticing and analyzing every document, menu, sign, company logo, book cover, magazine layout, t-shirt design…EVERYTHING. It can be exhausting, but it’s a great way to keep learning.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most is the fear of being seen and judged. At my core, I’m actually very shy, and that makes it hard for me to put myself out there the way I know I probably should. I’ve always felt that if I weren’t so shy, I would promote myself and my business more consistently—and I probably would have built a much bigger platform and audience by now. It’s something I’m continuing to work through, even though it doesn’t come easily for me.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to making Mitchell Marketing successful, no matter how long it takes. Being an entrepreneur definitely has its highs and lows, but I’m not going to give up during the lows. I’m going to keep building until I can’t anymore.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I actually get excited about the incredible women I get to work with. Right Hand Solutions in North Carolina, The Hustling Heart in Philadelphia–nothing but sheer brilliance!
I also get excited when I have a lot of different client projects going on at once. When I get to constantly switch between working on a website and designing a logo and creating reels and editing a podcast—all for different clients in wildly different industries—it’s so much fun for me.
