Check Out Trey’Meka Dyke’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trey’Meka Dyke.

Hi Trey’Meka, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I became a single mother after leaving an abusive relationship in the middle of COVID, and in the midst of that, lost my babysitter. I was working at the Footlocker warehouse and decided to start making cheesecakes to bring in more money. Before I knew it, I was making an extra $1000 a month.
I entered the hospitality industry in 2012 and ever since then, it has been my dream to have my own space to share my love of food. Because of that dream, I decided to just jump in, so that 1.) I could be a present single parent and 2.) give my boys a life they could be proud of. A collective restaurant was formed, and I launched my business officially in January 2021. With that, I added catering and cheesecake cupcakes to the menu.
Four years later, I am sharing my passion of food and have a successful catering business, along with the cheesecake filled cakes and cupcakes. The next step for me is working towards my Mobile Cupcake Bar.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I left that relationship, my mental health was at all so time low, and I developed PTSD on top of my depression and ADHD. I sent my oldest to live with my parents for a few years because he wasn’t getting the help he needed with his ADHD at the places available here, and I just couldn’t manage it all. Being away from him after being attached at the hip for 9 years was an everyday struggle, but I just wanted to be the best mother I could be, and that meant getting help first. Navigating entrepreneurship on all of those struggles has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But also, the most rewarding!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known for catering and my cheesecake filled cupcakes and cakes. I am most proud of being consistent in quality for the last several years and being able to personalize everything for my clients. You’re not going to find food made by the chef for the client most places and that makes everything more special to me and I hope everyone who has ordered!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that there are so many things to do and the diversity of people.
