Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Nivens.
Hi Jason, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story… There’s a lot but I’ll just cover the last 14/15 months. In May of last year I was downsized from my career in radio as an on air talent after nearly 20 years due to decisions made outside of the market. Since then I’ve been keeping myself busy with my family – 3 kids, 3 dogs, 3 cats and 1 beautifully wonderful wife. Working as a server/bartender at Wolfpack BBQ in Columbus Park, a stagehand with Bluefox Production, Ring Announcing with Fighting Alliance Championship, Emcee/DJ work within the Cyclocross Community in KC & LFK, Playing & doing a ton of work at the family farm in Osage County, KS and oh yeah I got my real estate license and am learning that new field within Executive Asset Properties a branch within Keller Williams.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Losing the career I’ve always wanted to do and did was absolutely a shot to my ego but I also know it wasn’t performance based. Not only did I do afternoons on the rock station in our cluster but I also was on the news & sports talk side quite a bit so learning a whole new career and juggling odd jobs here and there hasn’t been easy but I’ve made the most of it. Now, more than ever, my wife and I are just grinding day in and day out but trying to have a positive attitude about it so our kids don’t take that burden of bills and whatnot on. I think – for the most part – we’ve been successful about it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Radio was all I ever knew and did – aside from being in a burlesque troop for a handful of years. THAT was a blast! So when I was downsized and it was evident that the entire landscape had changed I knew I had to find a new career. A friend of mine invited me to join his team. I went through the schooling and got my license. I did keep my radio chops sharp by creating my own podcast “Kansas City with Jason Nivens”. I took most of August off from it to focus on my family and the work that’s been needed by me at the farm in Osage County. Most importantly I’m zeroed in on being the best husband and father to my family. I know that sounds cliche but really that’s what I want to leave behind when my final curtain is called – years from now God willing!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
There’s a lot to digest in real estate – just take it one step at a time. Also titled; check back with me next year since I’m super new at this thing.
