Hidden Gems: Meet Jeff Pavalone of Great Day Moving

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Pavalone.

Hi Jeff, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We didn’t wake up one day planning to buy a moving company. We did, however, leave a class taught by Codie Sanchez with a clear playbook: buy great small businesses, put the right operators in place, and build something that serves people well.

From there, we started searching for a business that fit naturally alongside Yours Truly Event Rentals—something operational, service-driven, and rooted in logistics and care. When Jeff came across Great Day Moving, it clicked immediately. The brand had a strong foundation and owners willing to share what they’d learned. We saw room to bring our influence to the business—tighten up systems, elevate the customer experience, and grow—while honoring and learning from the folks who built it.

The next piece was the most important: the operator. We immediately thought of Ross Regier—one of the hardest-working people we know, a veteran who only knows how to show up, serve, and go above and beyond. Ross isn’t just reliable; he’s wired for leadership and community. With Ross at the helm of day-to-day operations and us focused on strategy, brand, and growth, the model came together.

All the pieces aligned. We worked out a deal with the previous owners that respected their legacy and gave us a runway to invest in people, training, and equipment. Since taking over, we’ve focused on simple, meaningful improvements: clear pricing, better scheduling, careful hiring, consistent training, and a culture that treats customers like neighbors.

That’s how we bought Great Day Moving—and why we’re so committed to growing it. It’s more than trucks and boxes. It’s a team of good people showing up on one of the most stressful days of someone’s life and making it a little easier. We’re grateful to the owners who came before us, proud of the operator who leads us, and excited for what’s ahead.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. The first month after closing was a sprint—50+ moves in 30 days, higher expectations, and pure chaos at times. Raising the bar led to some employee movement, the phones didn’t stop, and we were rebuilding systems while running at full speed.

But learning in the thick of it was the best teacher. It forced fast decision-making, clearer processes, and proved how strong the leadership bench was from day one. The turbulence validated the model and made us sharper, faster.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Great Day Moving is a full-service moving company serving the Kansas City metro—residential and business moves, packing, and junk removal. We’re known for full transparency and doing exactly what we say we’ll do. Moving day is one of the biggest, most stressful days in someone’s life; our job is to be the calm in your storm.

What sets us apart is a service-first mindset and veteran-led operations. We combine hospitality-level care with tight, reliable execution—clear estimates, proactive communication, crews that show up on time, and belongings treated like our own. Brand-wise, we’re most proud that customers describe us as trustworthy and steady. If you call us, we’ll be there, we’ll work efficiently, and we’ll leave your home better than we found it.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
We expect the next 5–10 years to bring a steady rebound in moving demand as the housing market unlocks. Major forecasters see mortgage rates drifting down into 2026, which tends to release “pent-up movers” who delayed plans the last few years. On the supply side, housing starts are projected to tick up from ~1.35M in 2025 toward ~1.57M by 2029, and most U.S. metros returned to population growth in 2023–24—tailwinds that generally translate into more moves.

We’re also watching a few structural shifts: (1) the rise of build-to-rent and multifamily options, which increases lease turnover and local moves; (2) tech-driven expectations—instant quotes, live ETAs, photo/video inventories, and clearer pricing; and (3) service bundling—packing + junk removal + storage as a single, managed experience. Survey data suggests BTR is still expanding modestly, especially across the Midwest, which aligns with what we’re seeing on the ground.

Our plan is to meet those trends head-on: transparent pricing, better scheduling and communication, careful hiring and training (with a veteran-led culture), and partnerships with builders, apartment operators, and agents so customers get a calm, coordinated move on one of the biggest days of their lives.
