Community Highlights: Meet Nate Force of Lemoncake Bikes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate Force.

Hi Nate, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I got started in the bike business in 2012 when I worked at a shop in my hometown of Topeka, KS. I got let go of that job (for standing up against racism toward a customer 🙄) and then looked for other mechanic jobs. This landed me in Kansas City working as the first full time bike mechanic for the RideKC bikeshare system. I helped that program grow from 2015 until my wife and I moved to Prague, Czech Republic in 2017.

While in Prague, I started my first business called Held High, which I still run successfully today. Its a website & marketing agency. We moved back to the US in fall of 2018.

During COVID, I wanted to spend less time on a screen, so I picked up the wrench again and started Lemoncake Bikes out of my basement. Customers would drop off bikes for repair or they could have me come to their home or office and repair their bike there. I’m really good at finding efficiencies so I was able to work at a faster pace than the bike shops around the city, which allowed me to absorb their overflow.

Today, I still operate Lemoncake in the same manor – by appointment only either out of my garage or mobile repair. Additionally, I serve cycling studios and health clubs by servicing their indoor bikes. MOJO on the plaza has been a long time partner in that regard.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Pretty smooth! People love the quick and quality service. They love being able to put a face to their mechanic. My biggest friction point has been my own time, personally. But it hasn’t been much of a struggle.

Its all been word of mouth so far, haven’t done much marketing. I think it’d really take off if I put effort there.

As you know, we’re big fans of Lemoncake Bikes. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I repair bicycles. Road, mountain, city bikes, e-bikes, indoor bikes.
Known for quick & efficient service with a personal touch.

Mobile service.
Repair only, so I can scale because I don’t have a bunch of stock sitting around like most shops.

I’m most proud of the simple joys that a healthy bike brings to my customers when they are able to ride it care free.

Tune-ups are a super power of mine. Most of the time you’ll get your bike back within 2 days, if not the same day.

There’s a fall deal and a spring deal – 20% off each tuneup.

How do you think about happiness?
Working for myself, creating businesses that better my customers and my city.

Pricing:

  • Standard Tune-up $120
  • Advanced Tune-up $170
  • Fitness bikes starting at $100
  • Bike builds starting at $140
