Marcela Munoz shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Marcela, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: When was the last time you felt true joy?
This morning, waking up at 10:30 am and starting my work day from my bed.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
First things first, my name is Marcela but most people know me as Childfree Millennial online! I am a 30 year old content creator focusing on childfree living and the intricacies that come with that lifestyle, because there are many!
I started my online journey back in early 2021 when I was going through a self discovery period of deciding whether or not motherhood was something I was going to pull the trigger on (seeing as I was married at the time). I ultimately did what any good millennial does when wanting answers to a question and asked Google. I was met with little to nothing on the subject (thank goodness now in 2025 theres a PLETHORA of resources to help someone like me back in the day). I did however find a podcast episode from Be There In Five entitled “Childless Millennial” Shout out to Kate Kennedy for indirectly literally kickstarting this journey for me! To say that episode changed my life would be as accurate as I could put into words. I cried,I listened to it three times in a row that night and the rest from there is history…well kinda.
I decided to start my online presence under the name “Childfree Millennial” because “free” sounded more like what I was feeling instead of “less”. I was going to treat my social platforms as more of a diary than anything because I genuinely thought I was the only person in the world who was going through this “awakening” of not wanting to have kids and I just wanted to express my thoughts in video form.
Welllll now I guess I’ll say the rest is history because 4 years later and 85,000 followers later, I now know I am most definitely not the only one and there are so many men and women who feel the same way I did in 2021. Not only that, but I’ve found those older and wiser than I who made the decision to be Childfree long ago and who are mentors and role models to me.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage.
That saying guided my in my childhood because that’s all I knew and it was being ingrained in me from a young age. I’m so glad I don’t still have that mentality today!
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
The hard days are just that, days. Not a hard life, a hard existence and definitely not something that will keep you down!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
The choice to be Childfree is actually a selfless choice and one that takes more thought than the average parent when listing their reasons as to why they had a child.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will remember me for being an advocate and a voice for the childfree community.
I hope people will remember the hope and laughter and community I built to help inspire and virtually hug those who felt alone in their decision.
i hope people will remember me for always being happy and optimistic. Always willing to crack and joke to make someone smile and the friend that was always there.
