Amanda Doering shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Amanda, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I really enjoy a daily walk on my break in the neighborhood surrounding our school. Not only does it help clear my mind before heading back into the classroom, but I enjoy seeing one of the communities that we serve.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m the owner of Brookside Montessori, a Montessori program for children ages 2 years through 6 years of age. After 4 years of operating the program in-home, we began expanding into our new home in South KC.
At Brookside Montessori, our moto is Nurture, Nature, Neighborhood. We nurture the childs interests and development. We connect with Nature through extensive time in our Nature Classroom, projects that tie into Nature, and through our lunch program, which features fresh and organic ingredients. We connect with our Neighborhood by regularly partnering with community teachers and ensuring that our activities and classroom represents the diverse community we wish to serve.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
Marty Dennington from Willow Montessori taught me the most about Montessori. She saw my interest and need to learn more about Montessori. She daily offered guidance and listening sessions to joys, successes, and challenges.
Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
When I began the licensing process at our first location, I felt immensely honored that the first few families were interested in our program, and trusted me with their childs growth and development. They will forever hold a fond place in my heart. I am indebted to them for their encouragement and support. It has allowed me to grow our program.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Beauty, home, balance, and nature are some of my core values.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in nature. There is something incredibly balancing about hiking through the woods and feeling the uneven surface under your feet.
