We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kyle Gillett. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Kyle, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I get up around 4-5 am and go to the gym. Hopefully, my 3 young children are still sleeping. My typical workout includes a combination of CrossFit, strength training, and track workouts.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m board-certified in family medicine and obesity medicine. My Practice includes preventative medicine, sports medicine, hormone optimization, obstetrics and infertility, integrative medicine, and aesthetics. I also enjoy hosting the Gillett Health Podcast. I firmly believe “food is medicine” and “exercise is medicine”. I describe the “7 pillars of health”: exercise, diet, sleep, stress, social, sunlight, and spirit. These are more powerful than any medication or supplement. I also enjoy spending time outdoors on the farm with my wife, three kids, and wolfhound.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’ve always been interested in health optimization, hormones, peptides, and lifestyle medicine (diet, exercise, sleep, and social health). These things are trendy now, but I have spent the last two decades designing my education to be an expert in these topics. I’m also practicing what I preach, staying healthy and fit, besides having a family and multiple businesses.
The world tells many burnt-out health care providers to start recommending cookie-cutter HRT, peptides, and supplements. However, these individuals often lack the necessary knowledge, and they are often just chiropractors or nurse practitioners without the optimal background knowledge. I take it as a compliment when people mistake me for a chiropractor because I look healthy and fit and prescribe exercise.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
One interesting lesson I learned as a kid is that life is not fair, and large organizations will be corrupt. I did go to the University of Kansas for med school, but I did not go there for college because they didn’t accept my transcript, as I was home-schooled.
This lesson helped teach me that you should always have backup plans, and some things are more difficult because big organizations will treat you differently because of your background
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
This is why I like long-form podcasts, because they give you time to discuss the nuance of topics like methylene blue, peptides, even immunizations
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
My patients would miss the personalized, evidence-based care and the minimally biased, honest health information on the podcast.
