Good morning Dan, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Absolutely! My band Bound & Determined was just voted Kansas City Magazine’s The Best of KC 2025 Best Tribute/Cover Band of the Year (also 2023 winner), and Missouri’s Best 2026 Hottest Band!!! Our lead vocalist Morganna Lee was also voted Top Vocalist by both magazines.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dan Smith, President/Owner of Smart Choice Entertainment, and Home Land Security & Electronics, LLC. I’m also the managing member of the band Bound & Determined.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I’ve always strived to be successful at the things I’ve done. I have been really fortunate to have great mentors in life, that have helped educate me. Going all the way back to youth sports, through high school and college. I have also had great mentors in business.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
The best lessons in life are the ones that hurt the most. The only real failures are to stop trying.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Very much so. I pride myself on always staying true to who I am as a person. Honesty, integrity, and being the same person all the time is important to me.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
As an entrepreneur the only person you can count on is yourself. The best praise is when a client tells you how much they appreciate the work or service that you provide.
