Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey.
Hi Kelsey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Learning human anatomy has been one of my passions since childhood. In fact I regularly asked for anatomy books as gifts and remember being mesmerized by the bones and muscles forming our shape and allowing for movement.
Also, I’ve always spent a bit of my time outdoors. Here I find my calm and peace, and a deeper connection with my Spirit. Nature reminds me of who I am beneath the noise of society, and inspires me to write and share my experiences of healing.
As a young adult I was incredibly angry and went to therapy for years to help me work through my hurt and become a person I enjoyed spending time with. However, I quickly realized that just speaking about my hurt wasn’t enough to heal. Traumas are stored in the cells of our beings, and I needed to move my body in new ways. I began practicing yoga with videos on YouTube, and then hired a teacher to help me refine my practice.
A short while later I began a silent meditation practice and followed a few guided meditation teachers. The culmination of my grounding practices helps me slow down and live a life I am proud of.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My path in becoming a mediation and yoga teacher has been a wild ride, but absolutely beautiful with synchronicities. Navigating the lasting effects of childhood traumas and how they have bled into my adult life has been both challenging and the most luxurious gift I could give myself.
Even in childhood, I’ve been drawn toward this lifestyle, and without the words to describe meditation, I meditated regularly. Journaling and repeating affirmations have been two of my favorite teachers, as an adult, to help me work through difficult experiences and unearth who I am beneath the conditioning and hurt.
Each new obstacle realigns my focus to break habitual patterns of thinking, improve my posture, and live in-tune with my energy.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a certified Forrest Yoga Teacher, I earned my master’s degree in exercise science, and I was a lead personal trainer for four years. My diverse skill set helps me connect authentically with a variety of people, however my favorite groups to work with are adults who want to feel more at peace and nurture their relationship with self. I teach a slow paced yoga which I refer to as moving meditations. In my yoga classes and meditations, I guide most breaths to let the thinking mind rest. Stillness, softness, and integrity are easily sacrificed in our society, and my intention is to help others reconnect with their truest nature of being.
I am very proud of myself for continuing to pursue my passion and turning my hurt into medicine.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success is living a life I am proud of and staying true to myself.
