Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Campbell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started in late 2008 after I was diagnosed with PTSD from finding my mom dead. I was at the lowest point in my life and music was the only thing that made me feel whole again. (as cheesy as that sounds). I tried to run from my grief by attending as many concerts and shows as possible but when I was at home I needed something to do on my restless nights alone when I would feel lost. My friend Jen HA steered me into the underground dj world and it was zero to 100 after that. Thus “Requiem” was born as a dedication to my mother and all of my pain.
Requiem: a composition of music or Mass for the deceased.
Since then I have been featured on Netflix, produced and released 2 albums, 15 collaborative singles and have toured the country sharing stages with some of the biggest names in Hip hop and EDM. From Snoop dogg, post Malone, Run the Jewels and chance the rapper. To Skrillex, marshmallow and Zedd.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest hurdle was navigating PTSD while being an Artist/ entertainer. Now that I’m older and wiser I highly suggest ANYONE who suffers from any type of mental health hurdles to seek therapy ❤️. it does not make you less of a man/woman to Reach out for help.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a national touring Turntableist/Dj and music producer .
I specialize in Bass heavy Hip hop, EDM and Rock/emo . But I also play “open format”.
The human connections and skills I’ve picked up along the way have been the things I can say I’m most proud of.
I think my dislike for fake “influencer” Dj’s has made me hone in on my craft even harder over the last few years so my personality and skill are what sets me apart from others in my industry
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is different to everyone. But it comes down to happiness and not feeling like you’re working a job. The absolute freedom to be yourself unapologetically as an artist is success to me
