Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Kolnyang.
Hi Christina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started with just a passion and a skill working with friends and family back in 2015. At first, it was just something I loved doing, but I quickly realized how powerful it could be to make people feel confident and beautiful. When Covid happened, it changed a lot of things. We all went our separate ways. I decided to look into salon suits. I found a location in Leawood area but it was too far. So I decided to relocate my business to North Kansas City area. This location has helped me build clients. I began taking clients, building relationships, and learning how to run a business along the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With any businesses, there are always challenges along the way. My definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve faced challenges along the way—everything from learning how to balance time between clients, social media, and business tasks, to figuring out how to market myself in a crowded beauty industry. In the beginning, I struggled with consistency and reaching new clients outside of word-of-mouth. There were also times when self-doubt crept in, especially when comparing myself to others online.
But every challenge taught me something valuable—how to stay resilient, how to adapt, and how to keep pushing forward. Those struggles shaped me into who I am today and gave me the drive to grow not just as a braider, but as a business owner.
I am still learning as my business grows.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am black owned hairstyle. I started braiding hair when I was young, just helping friends and family look and feel their best. What began as a passion quickly grew into something bigger—I realized that braiding wasn’t just about style, it was about confidence, culture, and connection.
I offer a variety of braiding styles at my salon, including Knotless braids, Boho braids, box braids, kids braids, and so much more!
Over time, I turned that love into a business, working with people of all races and genders, and creating styles that fit their personality and lifestyle. Along the way, I’ve been learning, growing, and sharing my journey online—showing not just the braids, but the art, dedication, and care that goes into every style.
Today, I’m proud to serve my community, meet amazing clients, and expand my reach through social media. My goal is simple: to make every client feel confident, beautiful, and seen, while growing a brand that celebrates creativity, culture, and self-expression.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality I feel is the most important to my success as a braider is patience. Braiding takes time and care, and I’ve learned that being patient allows me to give each client the attention they deserve so their style comes out neat, long-lasting, and beautiful. I’d also say creativity and attention to detail play a big role—because every client is different, I love finding ways to make each braid unique and tailored to them. Those qualities together have helped me grow as both a stylist and a business owner
The quality that stands out as most important for my success is consistency, It’s not always raw talent or intelligence that drives long-term results, but the ability to keep showing up, putting in the work, and improving little by little—even when motivation
