Conversations with Allison Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Davis.

Hi Allison, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Allison Davis and I’m the owner of Game Changer Physical Therapy. I graduated from physical therapy school in 2013 and knew I wanted to spend as much time as I could helping athletes recover from injury and get back to their sport. I was fortunate enough to work in multiple clinics that focused on working with athletes of all ages (middle school through professional). That experience lead me to the Kansas City Current where I served as the team physical therapist for 3 seasons. Since leaving the Current, I have opened my own business with the goal of helping soccer and basketball players return to sport after injury. I have a special interest in rehabbing ACL injuries, knowing how (unfortunately) common it is in each of these sports.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has been a relatively smooth one, thankfully. I’ve been fortunate enough in my career that when I’ve set a goal, I’ve been lucky enough to achieve it. However, deciding to start my own business was a big risk that definitely came with challenges (like where to be located, what equipment did I need, what relationships did I need to grow in order to be successful at helping people). My biggest challenge now is making sure that people understand that I exist and that I’m here to help.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a physical therapist specializing in sports injuries in soccer and basketball players. I’ve been a physical therapist for 12 years and have spent my entire career working with athletes and helping them overcome injuries. I focus more on lower body issues in athletes that participate in multi-directional sports like soccer and basketball. I have a very special interest in rehabbing ACL injuries as these are unfortunately all to common in these sports, especially for female athletes.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for people starting in their careers as physical therapists or healthcare professionals is to make sure the patient knows how much you truly care about them and their well-being. People won’t care until they know you care so the more you can show them you value their well-being as much as they do, the better your outcomes will be. This will also make you a better physical therapist. If you are sincerely invested in your patients’ health, then you will do anything and everything you can to help them, including learning new techniques, programs, and protocols for their recovery.
