Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Petersburg.
Hi Andrea, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I had a pinched nerve in the summer of 2019. I meditated a lot because the pain was so debilitating. And the idea for a store that sells local art and locally made goods just came to me! I knew where I wanted it to be, which was occupied at the time. I didn’t act on the idea until a whole year later during the late summer of 2020. I chose a name. I secured my location. I opened the doors in October 2020 with a really short lease as a “seasonal pop-up.” Here I am today. Still going and about to turn 5 years old.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been smooth. It’s been fun! It’s been rewarding! It’s also been challenging. I think it took two years of “getting my feet wet” and experimenting with everyday business operations and retail displays before feeling secure. The most challenging times were the summer of 2023 when my mom got sick and passed away. My grandma passed away three months later. Grieving death while owning a storefront was challenging. The following spring of 2024, about six months later, I was the victim of a fraud scheme that stole all my money. I had less than $200 in my account. What a season of loss that was for me, although I received a lot of support from friends and customers! Because of the caring community supporting me, I am still here. Still kicking! I’m building my business back up with the support of my husband and The Local Bevy will be better than ever. We are actively scheduling new artist pop-ups, workshops, classes, and (finally) launching an e-commerce site this fall that we are really excited about!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Local Bevy is a quaint storefront in historic Rountree Corner that sells a curated collection of handmade and local arts and goods. We are a gift store known for having “something different,” as most of our pieces in the store are one of a kinds from original wall art to handmade ceramic mugs, wood kitchen utensils, or a piece of amazing jewelry. It’s like a mini art and craft show in my store. What sets me apart from others is the energy in my space. It’s relaxed and inviting. People feel good when they walk in the store. I know because they tell me.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We love learning about new artists and makers. We love hosting pop-ups and workshops. To collaborate, email us!
