Today we’d like to introduce you to Addison Schletzbaum.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up participating in my local 4-H club, which is where I first developed an interest in photography. I began by taking pictures of my 4-H animals using an old DSLR and became involved in the club’s photography project. Once I reached high school, I expanded my focus to photographing sporting events—especially football and basketball games. I also helped organize “media days” for the volleyball and basketball teams so we could have team and individual photos for ourselves in our uniforms.
That experience made me realize how much I enjoyed photographing people. I practiced regularly, often using my parents as subjects during our free time, and continuously worked on learning more about my camera and improving my skills—thanks to helpful tutorials on YouTube. Eventually, I created a photography Instagram account to showcase my work and began promoting myself on Facebook.
Growing up in a small town, word of mouth played a significant role in helping me secure my first clients. I started with family sessions and, over time, have expanded both my experience and portfolio. I have also invested in higher-quality equipment to provide my clients with a better experience. Today, I primarily work with high school seniors and couples, but I also offer family sessions, branding photography, weddings, and more—tailoring my services to meet each client’s unique needs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have been fortunate to experience a relatively smooth journey while building my business. The most challenging aspect for me has been managing the tendency to compare myself to others. There are many incredibly talented photographers in the community whom I look up to, and it’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing my work to theirs. Building confidence in my own photography has been a gradual process, but over time, I have developed an eye and created work that both my clients and I truly appreciate.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in photographing couples and seniors but offer a wide range of services, including weddings, family sessions, branding photography, and more. I truly enjoy building relationships with my clients throughout the entire process—from the initial inquiry to the final gallery delivery. One aspect that I believe sets me apart is my outgoing personality, which I bring into each session. I strive to make my clients feel comfortable and at ease, creating an atmosphere that feels more like spending time with a friend. I always enjoy a couple’s session—being a “third wheel” is definitely my favorite part!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My parents deserve a lot of credit for supporting me from the very beginning—they have served as my test subjects and have always encouraged me to dedicate time and energy to growing my business. I would also give credit and thanks to all the photographers I’ve had the opportunity to work with. The photography community is incredibly supportive, and I feel fortunate to be a part of it. Most importantly, I owe the greatest thanks to my clients. I would not be where I am today without their trust and support. To every person who has allowed me behind the camera—thank you.
