Rising Stars: Meet Khristian King of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Khristian King.

Hi Khristian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started singing at a really young age. I would say about 5 or so. I remember being in the youth choir in church. I knew then that I loved music, I just didn’t know how much I was going to grow to love it and to want to make a career out of it. I’d always be listening to my favorite artists and be dancing around the house as if I was putting on a show. Entertaining was always in my DNA, but I thought that basketball was my one and only talent that I had a future in growing up. It didn’t really start to click in my mind that I wanted to pursue music by the age of 16; however, basketball was my #1 priority at the time and I didn’t think people would take me serious enough as an artist. For years, I wondered what it would be like if I’d just switched gears and follow after my second dream. I finally gave myself that chance in 2021 and bought my first piece of musical equipment. I’ll never forget…I bought my first laptop, audio interface, microphone, and of course musical software to be able to create art. I most definitely didn’t know what I was doing at all! I played around with the software and my keyboard and tried recording different sounds, until I started to become more knowledgeable of what I was doing. I would watch YouTube videos to learn different termologies, learning how to work certain DAWS I was using until I became more proficient in my craft. I always wanted to express myself in an artistical way, and I finally had the chance to do so. I released my very first song “My Lucinda” back in the summer of 2023. I had no huge expectations, but after I released that song I had much more confidence in myself. Fast forward to today, I’ve been very productive in releasing much more music, I from time to time do covers to other songs, I’ve been on stage to perform in front of others and I am currently living out a dream of mine that I only see getting bigger and bigger.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A huge struggle was actually getting comfortable with myself in regards to putting myself out there. I strangely had a thing were the older I became, I was kind of shy with me singing and having other people know that I can sing. It took me years to get over the fear. I never had stage fright when playing basketball or even acting in front of a huge crowd, but for some reason I cared so much about what people would potentially say to me or about me when it came to me singing. That was an insecurity of mine that I had to grow out of. There was only a handful of individuals who knew I could sing….mainly some family members and a few of my lady friends of course. But one day, I told myself that enough was enough and I put myself and my talent out there for the world to see.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m not only an artist….I am also a songwriter and a producer. I would say my strong suit is being a vocalist. I work so hard on my craft and constantly thrive on trying to develop new skills and improving. I am currently most proud of 2 things: 1. My EP titled “Listen” that tells a very brief, yet emotional filled story about my past love life. 2. I am so ecstatic about my live performance that took place at The Bird Comedy Theater. The crowd was amazing, the experience to grace that stage was phenomenal, and I had a wonderful time connecting with other artist and seeing them being so passionate about their craft. I would one thing that sets me apart is that no matter what I release to the public to hear, I always want to make sure that I have a valuable message for people to hold on to. Moving forward, I want my music to reflect nothing but love, positivity and peace. As a human race, I feel we deserve much more out of life than what we’re accustomed to. Music is a very powerful tool, and I want to use it to make a true statement.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Definitely honesty and transparency. Not just to the fans, but also to myself as an artist and human being. I never want to get to the point in my career where I start to become somebody that I’m not. I think that’ll be the day where I would decide to call it quits. My dignity must remain intact. And secondly, you got to have the determination and will power to be able to put in the work day in and day out no matter how exhausted you are or whatever’s going on. That separates the good from the great.
