Today we’d like to introduce you to Karley Kindberg.
Hi Karley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Here|After KC is the result of my sister and I simultaneously recognizing the value we find in maintaining clean living & workspaces as well as the value we find in working with our community. We are constantly talking about the fact that we live in a culture that promotes overconsumption; one that leads most of us to feel overwhelmed by the amount of stuff we have in our homes and workplaces. Our intention with Here|After is to help our fellow community members find a place where they can feel unburdened by the chaos of their belongings. In addition, we hope to help our clients utilize the abundance of great resources KC has to offer in order to divert as many items from the landfill as possible. We have been honored to work with many engaged and supportive clients and partners so far in our journey. We’re excited to see what the future has in store.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As anyone who has started a business knows, it’s not an easy undertaking. My sister and I have both been working either full-time or part-time jobs on and off throughout the year to supplement our incomes as we gain traction with Here|After. The biggest challenge has mostly been overcoming imposter syndrome. I’d imagine that most people in our position have felt this way, especially at the beginning of a new venture. I’m grateful that we have such a supportive, encouraging community around us to help cheer us on as we go.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My sister, Syd, and I have always been creatives and are both deeply passionate about taking care of the environment and our community. I’d say that what sets us apart is the fact that we are so focused on trying to run our Professional Organizing business in a less “conventional” way. We currently offer a sliding-scale pricing option for clients who may not be able to afford other Professional Organizer services. We recognize that unfortunately, those who likely could benefit the most from our services are those who don’t always have the means to pay for a “luxury” service such as organizing. Our hope is to find a balance between supporting ourselves through our business and offering options for clients who need our help the most.
An additional unique part of our services is our focus on finding a hereafter for the items our clients no longer need. We have utilized community resources such as Re.Use.Full in this process. Their website has a wonderful donation page that allows us to find the best places to donate various items. We also take donation items to Magpie Creative Reuse Collective, as a number of our clients are crafters. We hope to continue to grow partnerships with other organizations around KC!
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
We have loved listening to podcasts to help us understand new techniques and approaches to organizing. Some of our favorite organizing podcasts are: The Speak Organized Podcast, Clutterbug Podcast (also a YouTube channel that has tons of great videos, specifically for ADHD), and The Pro Organizer Studio Podcast.
Other podcasts that I love to listen to for fun or to learn new things are: Sustainability Unplugged (local KC podcast!), The Mel Robbins Podcast, Good Hang with Amy Poehler, On Being with Krista Tippett and We Can Do Hard Things.
