Rising Stars: Meet Kyleigh Sheá Smith of Kansas City, MO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyleigh Sheá Smith.

Hi Kyleigh Sheá, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a born and raised Kansas City native — my roots here run deep, going back generations. Growing up, community wasn’t just a value, it was a way of life. My dad used to take me on his appointments all around the city: downtown, the Plaza, you name it. This was before Google Maps — I was his human GPS. He’d say, “Okay Ky, we’re on Grand. Get me to Oak.” I’d roll my eyes, wishing I could just be a passenger princess, but looking back, it’s how I learned to navigate not just the city, but life.

I’ve always been the gathering friend. As a kid, I begged my mom to let me have people over. In high school and throughout university, I was known for throwing themed parties, dinner nights, little events that brought people together. Creating experiences — curated, intentional, a little quirky — became my love language.

Then last year, I went through my first real heartbreak. The kind that cracks you wide open. It forced me to sit with myself, to feel every bit of loneliness — and then to choose connection. I realized there’s a kind of strength in solitude, in learning to enjoy your own company. That’s where Table4One was born: a space that celebrates intentional solo living while still leaving room for community. It’s about learning to take yourself out, light the candle even when it’s just you, and romanticize the quiet moments.

And now, that solo table has expanded. Table4Ten is a Kansas City-based supper club rooted in community, curiosity, and coming together — ten strangers at a time. Life is messy and beautiful and unpredictable. But when we make space for ourselves and for others, we realize we’re never truly alone.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. But honestly — if you can say life has been a smooth journey… have you really lived?

Navigating adulthood has been anything but easy. Post-grad life hits like a wave no one really prepares you for. Universities don’t talk enough about the identity crisis that comes with leaving the structure of school — or how brutal the job market can be. It took me nearly two years to find the right job. Constant rejection, ghosting from employers, applying to roles I wasn’t even excited about — it’s exhausting and disheartening.

For so long, I tied my worth to my resume. To whether or not I got a call back. It wasn’t until someone asked me, “What do you do to live?” — not for work, but for joy — that everything shifted. That question changed everything. It reminded me that my value isn’t in a job title, it’s in how I care for myself, who I surround myself with, and the small rituals that make me feel alive.

On top of career struggles, I also went through a really tough heartbreak. That pain forced me to confront how I’d been treating myself — mentally, emotionally, even physically. Healing from that required a total reset. I had to learn how to be kind to myself again, to treat my body with care, and to rebuild a relationship with me.

It’s been a rocky road, but one that’s led to deeper self-awareness, purpose, and the creation of something beautiful — community born from the hard stuff.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At its core, Table4Ten is about creating space — for conversation, connection, and community. I host intimate dinner parties out of my cozy little Plaza apartment in Kansas City, and every gathering is an open invitation. All are welcome under my roof. It’s less about the table settings and more about the stories shared around them.

As a creative, my soul’s purpose is simple: Can my work make someone feel seen? Every project I take on, every event I host, every piece of content I share is rooted in that question. I want to be known as someone who brings people together — someone who unifies, who sparks collaboration, who turns strangers into friends.

Yes, the food is delicious (if I do say so myself), but the meal is just the vessel. It’s the excuse to put down our phones, settle in, and really talk. To get lost in conversation and suddenly realize, “Wait… it’s been four hours?” That’s the magic I try to create — moments that feel timeless, grounded, and real.

What sets me apart is that I lead with heart. I’m a bit of an old soul, and I’ve found a way to blend that with modern storytelling to build something deeply personal. Table4Ten is more than a supper club — it’s a feeling. It’s a place where people feel heard, held, and loved. And maybe that’s because I know what it’s like to feel the opposite. When I was at my lowest, I would’ve given anything to be invited to a table like this. Now I get to be that hand that reaches back — offering good food, warm light, and a seat for anyone who needs one.

What makes you happy?
Besides my furry Australian Shepherd, Ava Jane (who is basically the love of my life), it’s people. People make me happy.

What really fills my cup is witnessing humans return to the essence of what it means to be human — not through screens, but in real life. Present. With each other. We’ve gotten so used to chasing connection through scrolling and quick dopamine hits, but nothing compares to the simple, sacred act of reaching for someone’s hand. Of sitting across from someone and really seeing them.

Watching people laugh, listen, and learn from one another — especially when it’s rooted in love and respect — that’s the stuff that reminds me the world isn’t broken beyond repair. Whether they’ve known each other for years or just five minutes, seeing strangers form genuine connections gives me hope. It grounds me. It reminds me that as long as we still choose each other — to gather, to care, to be present — we’re going to be okay.
