Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Ledom.
Hi Max, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Mulligan’s because I have a love for golf and for vintage and for branding. I grew up watching golf on weekends with my dad and playing the video games with my brother like Tiger Woods PGA Tour and Wailai country club on Nintendo 64. I have also run clothing brands in the past and I’ve always had a passion for creating and designing clothes and creating businesses. So in 2024 I was getting into eBay flipping and at a lot of my picking locations I was finding old golf stuff with amazing character. And I was thinking is anyone going all in on the vintage golf scene? I realized after some research that yes there were people who were selling vintage golf, but no one was going all in on the concept with a brand story and even a store so that day that I found a lot of this cool old golf stuff I was thinking OK what would a business be called that sells vantage golf and that’s what led me to think of the word Mulligan, which in golf means to take a second swing if you had a bad first shot. So I thought our name needs to be Mulligan’s because it’s a second chance for these vintage items and then I was thinking OK what could be our slogan and borrowing from the recycling slogan I came up with reduce reuse re-swing and then from that day forward, I knew I had to do this.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a small business anything but a smooth road there’s going to be hiccups and issues that come up along the way and slow days and big days and so on and so forth. But I have been incredibly thankful to the reception this brand and store has gotten in Kansas City and I couldn’t be happier with the turnout and support that we’ve had and I am truly excited for the future of this brand.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So myself, I specialize in branding and creative. I’m always thinking of creative things to do for my business for other businesses. I have a problem almost when I’m driving down the road and I see businesses and their logos and how they’re branding themselves and I think how could I do better than that? How could I improve them? How could I take them to the next level so I’m able to apply that same string of thought to my own brands. So I was born to create things and be a creative whether it was art to design interior design, music photography. All of this is always spoken to me. It’s what my life is about. It’s who I am as a person. So I’m most proud of the brand I’ve built so far everything being at such a high-quality level from our social media to our branding to the way, our clothes are made and design into the way the shop looks. I’ve been extremely cautious about not doing anything half assed I want everything to feel like it’s been done with intention and with love. And I think that’s what’s made. People respond to us so well.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as whatever makes you happy and I know that’s kind of a generic one-size-fits-all answer, but this is the way I kinda look at it. You can be happy making very little money you could be happy making a ton of money that happiness does not feel happier with either/or it’s just happiness. And if you can find a way to be happy doing what you’re doing and living your life and being true to yourself that is what I define as success. You could be on a yacht that you purchased with your billions of dollars you could be driving a clunker that you were able to afford to a job that you really enjoy it doesn’t matter you find your happiness you do that thing and that is success.
