Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Lopez.
Hi Anthony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into the heating and cooling business (HVAC) started in a shop located in North Kansas City. At a young 18 years old, freshly graduated from North Kansas City high school with no direction as to where up,down, left or right was. While working at a BBQ restaurant I got a phone call from my father about a childhood friend who owned a local family operated heating and cooling company. There I began my journey learning from Scotty Baird owner of the shop and his lead Tyler Wilson who both would help me and begin to train and teach me the art of heating and cooling and that its more than just getting people heat and air conditioning. While working for MO-KAN metals and services I learned all aspects of the trade from serving equipment, repairing broken units, to replacing old outdated equipment to being a tinter inside a metal fabrication shop. But most importantly learned how to give excellent service without breaking the bank on a customer’s budget. From there I became a sponge and soaked up all and every piece of information on different types of systems, building codes, city municipal codes, continuing my education with different schools that manufacturers offered for their products. Eventually I decided to open my own company. Thus opening the door of Lopez Mechanical LLC. While keeping all my personal values that are the same principles for which my company is founded on. We are founded on the simple principles of HARD WORK,EMPATHY, and FAMILY.These three simple principles fit every situation we here at Lopez Mechanical run into the moment someone calls in to schedule a service. One major philosophy that I live by is that “we are not in the HVAC business, we are in the people business we just happen to do HVAC.” I treat every customer as a person, not a profits and loss spreadsheet. My only goal for my company is to provide professional services, cost effective solutions, and services to my customers and their families. Lopez Mechanical was and is founded and dedicated to my grandfather Eduardo Lopez. My grandfather was a letterman carrier (mailman) for the United States postal service and served in our nation’s government as a Army veteran, to honor him and all his accomplishments and achievements that is why I have made my company logo in the shape of a letter with the LM signifying the Lopez name which I will forever get to carry on. One considerable piece that I wanted to make Lopez Mechanical stand apart from every other company in Kansas City and in the greater area is my program that I have started called “THOSE WHO SERVE”. This program is dedicated to provide free services to veterans for HVAC services. A program that strictly is aimed to showcase and honor those who have made a sacrifice for our Great Nation. This program is for veterans who simply cannot afford costly repairs or replacement. These services will 100% free with donations from the community and by partnering with local veteran non-profit organizations.Donations can be made and all donations to this program strictly go to the program funds and none of it is kept for profit. All the meanwhile if a donation is made and they do not meet the qualifications of the program they still get 25% off any service for their own HVAC system. This program is dedicated to more than helping those that need help. Its purpose is to dedicate my time and my skill set to something in this world that is greater than just profits.
Being only 25 years of age and only being in this trade for 7 years, I’ve come a long way in such a short time and have no plans to stop growing and delivering nothing short of excellent service to anyone who picks up their phone and schedules their next appointment with Lopez Mechanical LLC.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have faced obstacles along the way just like anything work while. From not knowing how to work on certain type of equipment, to equipment failure, to even personal challenges. But my thinking is that if you’re not failing and everything is to easy then you aren’t growing and learning. My journey has been long and i am no where close to the end of this journey. I still have a long road ahead trying to build this company to the vision i had when i decided to start my own. I have a long road ahead to make Lopez Mechanical a household name like the big companies in the KCMO area. Some struggles that i know I’m going to have is competing with those trust names and building value in my name and company and proving myself to those people who are skeptical. But that’s all part of the challenge and i love a good challenge.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
one thing that sets apart my business from other companies is that I’m truly locally owned and operated. Another major difference is i am a veteran owned company. I still currently service in the United States Missouri Army National Guard. I take pride in serving our great country and i take pride in giving my customers the best and greatest service the minute they pick up the phone to scheduled a service. One major thing that sets me apart is that i have started a new unheard of initiative in the HVAC industry. We here at Lopez Mechanical LLC. Like to call to “THOSE WHO SERVE”. This program is designed to specifically not only showcase our veterans and promoting their personal stories but also 100% covering those expensive repairs or replacements that they cannot afford due to multiple of reasons. Also if you do not meet the regiments you can still be apart of this program by donating to the programs funding and get a 25% discount on your next service by just simply donating. This program is close to my heart as i currently am serving and my grandfather who this company is dedicated to also served in the Army Reserves and was deployed during operation desert storm that later turned into desert shield.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I never really looked for a mentor i was just blessed and luc ky to find specific people who now are life long friends that have helped me grow and showed me ways of the trade. If looking for a mentor my advice would be simply find someone you feel like will take the time to train you how you want to be trained and finds your style of working. Also most importantly be a sponge. Be a sponge and absorb all bits of information and practice. Always find ways to improve and take pride in your craft.
