Today we’d like to introduce you to Vilma Subel.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I believe you all have read about me for Xiphium Salon and as the founder of the Midwest Hair Styling Awards. I founded the awards in 2019 and have had successful runs these last few years. This year in 2025 we have expanded our show outside of the Midwest to the entire United States And beyond.
We rebranded and the name of the show is now the American Beauty Vision Awards.
We believe that Beauty unites us all and is very multifaceted. Our show is not about competition. It is about collaboration and celebration.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At times, it has been a smooth road, but all roads have curves and bumps. I see those curves and bumps as learning opportunities. Without them, we would limit ourselves when it comes to growth.
Struggles could be as little as finding a venue that would suit the type of event that we are putting on to finding the right sponsors to partner with. With determination and faith, we seem to overcome whatever we are faced with.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I started my career over 40 years ago as a hairdresser, and I am proud to say that I am still working behind the chair and along the way have educated for a manufacturer, have produced different events and shows, and have always loved photographing my work as well as working with other photographers and artists within our industry. Again, I am all about collaboration and sharing the fun of the craft with others who are just as passionate.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people who do not know me well are surprised that I don’t like to be in the spotlight as much as I love to produce shows. I like to be behind the scenes with the planning and producing and guiding others to shine. It’s not always about me and I’m OK with that. I get enough joy when I can see things build from the ground up and allow others to enjoy along the way.
