Meet Diana Lawson of Journey House KC LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Lawson.

Hi Diana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got started in real estate because I found myself in a position where I had to depend on myself, which required making drastic changes in my life quickly. After doing some research and seeing the success that real estate agents could achieve, I decided to obtain my real estate license in 2014 to create a new life for myself by selling houses. I acquired my broker’s license in 2019 and started Journey Real Estate Group LLC, a property management company. Life was good; I was making a comfortable living and loved working with different people while leasing and managing properties.

I began collaborating with my contractor and started managing his rehab projects. He taught me valuable insights about renovating homes and how to make them more profitable. I realized that having a strong team was far more effective than working alone. Therefore, I can’t take all the credit for my success, as I had people in my corner who freely shared their knowledge.

With my newly acquired skills and knowledge of knowing the limited number of rentals for people with little or no credit I decided to look for ways I could further help people while continuing to level up in my field. I am now working on opening my first sober co-living home for women “Journey House KC LLC.

I have a wonderful team that believes in me and encourages me to be a better version of myself every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I doubt myself and my strengths every day. It takes money to make power moves and most times I was a dollar short but I kept pushing forward and still do. I am fortunate to have people I can call for encouragement and guidance when I need it most.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the proud owner and operator of Journey House KC LLC, a sober living house for women who have completed their recovery a now need a safe residence while getting back into society. Although Journey House KC has not officially opened its doors yet, we will soon become an affiliate of the Missouri Coalition of Recovery Residences.

What sets me apart from others is my diverse skill set, which includes selling homes, property management, project rehab management, and now managing a sober living home in the Greater Kansas City area. My life’s mission has always been to serve others, and I believe the best way to do this is by helping individuals become the best versions of themselves. Team work is what makes this possible.

What does success mean to you?
Success is about learning, sharing and growing. You can not grow if you are not willing to learn new things, even if it’s hard or you think you are not worthy or capable. You can not live life through the eyes of someone else it’s all up to you.
