Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up in India, I was immersed in a world of vibrant flavors and entrepreneurial spirit. My parents, successful entrepreneurs, ran a thriving restaurant and catering business alongside other ventures. Some of my fondest memories are helping my mom in the kitchen, absorbing her time-honored recipes and culinary secrets that won over countless hearts. That’s where my passion for food was born!
In 2023, I set out to share the authentic taste of my childhood with the city, and Sri’s Kitchen was born as a pop-up at the Independence Farmer’s Market. The response was overwhelming – our food quickly captured the taste buds of the community, sparking a love for Indian cuisine. By the end of that year, with the support of my husband, Jason, a proud Navy veteran, we took a leap and purchased our own food truck.
Today, Sri’s Kitchen food truck is thriving, serving traditional Indian favorites alongside innovative fusion dishes, like our baked apple cinnamon samosas. Every bite is crafted with care and served with love, reflecting the culinary journey that started in my mother’s kitchen and now brings joy to our customers across Kansas City.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Overall, the road has been fairly smooth, but we’ve definitely had our bumps here and there getting into this business. Mostly in learning how to operate and run our food truck, since neither one of us had ever done it before! We’ve come a long way since we first started, but we are getting better at it and learning more each day.

At our food truck, we serve authentic Indian cuisine made with love, alongside innovative fusion dishes that put a fresh twist on traditional flavors. We’re proud to be Kansas City’s first Indian food truck, bringing the rich, vibrant taste of India to the streets—fresh, fast, and full of flavor.
Our butter chicken is a fan favorite and the most popular item on our menu. Whether you’re an Indian food enthusiast or trying it for the first time, we love watching people discover and fall in love with the bold spices and comforting flavors I grew up with. That moment of joy never gets old!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Just like anything else in life, if you have a passion for doing something and you get joy out of it, then keep pursuing it! If that ever changes, try something else.
There are plenty of things I wished I had known starting out. Mostly around licenses and rules in regard to running a food business, but I had some great mentors who helped me along the way. Special thanks to Ennovation Center, in Independence that helped us in getting our food truck business up and running!
